Hexen was a pain in the ass to navigate. The giant common area you kept having to come back to after you opened an unseen door and search all over for.

This game came in a demo CD with a magazine then and the effect it created was nothing short of a mayhem for us who loved that first time fps version type Game...hexen, wolfenstein, quake, starwars sith, carmageddon thank you for making my childhood days memorable

I remember I bought a cd with halloween theme style that includes Heretic, Hexen, Blood, Nitemare, Doom, Quake. All of them in shareware version. That was great back then.

Mage: all the weapons shoot. Fighter: some weapons bash. Others shoot, until they don't, but it's OK, but then he just bashes with them dry.

When you kill D'sparil, it also kills all remaining enemies on level. When you kill Korax -- obviously, it does not. Don't ask, who of them two is stronger... )))

Ackchually... according to the lore D'Sparil is the weakest of the four brothers. I would have liked Hexen if it wasn't for the shieldy centaurs that freezes the action continually

the weapons are so overpowered in this game. from the point you get the second weapon this game feels like playing with cheats even on 5th difficulty.

in heretic every single level is carefully designed to be completable with starting wand only on 5th difficulty, and with that setup the game proves actual challenge in almost every level. in hexen they seem to have been so blinded about the new hub and puzzle concepts (which are yes, great) that they totally forgot to actually test the gameplay. it's a shame because hexen would have been a 5/5 game if the fights would be any challenging.

It is true that every character has their strong weapons starting from weapon 2 and with that there is no problem at killing monsters but at least they appears in so many groups of enemies going around, deadly traps, and respawning enemies in this game. In 5th difficulty I really had problems with so many enemies that there are fast and fast fireballs throwing enemies. And in that difficulty if you don't know where to go, you get screwed because until you find an exit you have to fight for eternity. :)

+idsoftwarelover91 the traps were fun element yeah, and sure they provided challenge in first playtrough, but in my experience they weren't enough to compensate the easiness of the combat. they would have been a nice addon to the game, but being the only element that required attention felt more like an attempt to make the game challenging at least some way, in refuse to balance the weapons to the level of the monsters.

Yeah also could use the items like flasks and kraters anytime that make the game easy as well :) How about the expansion? That Deathking of the dark citadel was a good version too and sometimes hard.

i tried it, but finding the second weapon from the starting room wrecked the feeling for me. i might go for it later, just out of the curiosity to the environment since the maps themselves were mostly nice in hexen.

I downloaded something called DHHultimatepack that contains Doom, Heretic and Hexen with respective expansions, go to google and put Download DHHultimatepack... and last download Skulltag or Zandronum that can run every wad of the game... and if it works on win7 I think it will work but I dunno because I have WinXP...

i remember this game , same time doom 2 was around, and when warcraft 1 was popular. I never liked it but you must say for a game that runs on just 8 meg of ram and not 8 gig 8000 meg it looks quite good even better than doom but the dark graphics and boring sound made it no fun for me. I thought day of the triad was a much better doom clone around this time and was shareware

hexen was an excellent game but i felt they just ran out of ideas with the bosses/boss fights. no difficulty at all and just lots of random shit spawns to make it look little bit less straightforward
