How to make a Doll Wig [ Bangs Style ]

So this was the very wig that I have created, and it is not that bad overall. It is not perfect to say the least, but I think it works because the hair is so dark. I should not have put all the effort in the back of the, and I should have worried more on the front and top part. Also, the way I created the wefts were not the greatest. I will try a different approach next time. I still hope that you guys find this helpful in any way :D

I have made wigs and I recommend you do the scalp differently. What you should do is put the weft facing the opposite direction of how the hair is going to lay. Glue the weft and wait for it to dry, then flip the hair over and brush down. I personally would dip the hair in water to weigh it down. For the other side, do the same thing. This time, push the other side against the side that you had already placed. Hold in place until dry. Flip the hair, dip it water and you're done! This way you won't have to paint the hair :) Hope this helped :) -A Universal Hixel

Your first wig looks good, there are few few mistakes that you made but you managed to make the wig look nice. When it comes to weft making I usually use the glue method with yarn or alpaca, for the type of hair you used making the weft by sewing makes the weft a lot neater but if you really have to use glue, taping the hair first will help you to have some neater and even looking wefts (That's what I used to do it really helps a lot) .

For a first try it's a really good wig. :) I had (and still have) the same problems with miscalculation of the wefts. It helps to paint the wigcap in a similar color to the hair, so you can leave a little space between the wefts. If you have access to natural fibers, you should use them instead. They blend in way better and the wefts look fuller without layering them as thick.

You did so well for your first wig! Amazing! A tip for the future though, making the top of the weft thin and even will help you so much with the weight issue. Also, at the top to cover your wig cap you can take thin sections and make the part more natural by taking small groups of hair and flipping them over (thatching) to criss-cross the part. It helps if you take the top two wefts near the part and glue them facing the opposite direction before doing this and will give a more professional finish.

It looks good, the only problem with glued not sewn wigs is tht you cant't style It in hot water because glue will melt (learnt It hard way) :(

+Anni Mani i can see that. There are waterproof glue though that can be used. So i know some will curl or style the hair first before glueing

Try looking for fabric glues specifically? You might have more luck with those, as they're meant to be washable to be used on fabrics. ^_^

I have a suggestion, before you cut or do anything with the hair I would suggest letting it sit in fabric softener for about a week so you don't have the shine of the plastic, unlesss that's what you are looking for

cut a slit down the pattern and glue 2 wefts inside each side of the cap and pull out and over the glue ontop, it hides the glue ontop and gives it a natural look. if it isn't sitting right, do a boil hair wash to keep it in place :) I think you did a really good job! the colours are lovely

I hate glue on my hands too...it drives me crazy! I am glad to see I wasn't the only one to start at the back and end up with too much hair. I have come a long way since then, as you have too and I like elastic and stocking net wig caps with the hair sewn in. I trashed far too many bags of hair with the glue technique and I still use glue for yarn braids but for hair, I am definitely more in favour of the sewn in wig.

Hi hextian, I think this came out quite decent for your first wig! You really have to just bite the bullet and dive right in and do it first hand, like you did, to learn what to avoid next time. It's really hard to explain- you gained invaluable experience and it looks cute too. I remember my first re-root, I focused SO MUCH on the back and creating new holes for hair plugs, so worried scalp would show through- and towards the end, I had to buy MORE hair cuz I used so much. It turned out to be very unnecessary, and although the doll looks cute, she has SO MUCH HAIR!!! It's seriously soooo thick! Lol seems like we made similar mistakes, but we learned next time will be even better! :)

That's a pretty great first wig! There are lots of tutorials out there. Nicolle's Dreams has some on her KZbin and Patreon pages, Xanthi (Jointed Love) has a pretty good picture tutorial. Lomi's Playground, Will Store, and UNNiEDOLLS here on KZbin also have tutorials. Everyone does it just a little bit different. The trickiest part is the parting! I still haven't mastered that, but practice is helping! I can't wait to see more of your wigs!

Researching regular sized wefts might help with the way they can be sewn in. Also it might look better and be easier if you cut the wefts less and use it in lines like real wigs. Also using a little cap of lace might be a good idea if you want to try ventilation it might make the wig more natural and versatile

I am no wig maker, so don't have experience making wigs, but to me, I think the sewing route is a better choice, because the glue just looks tacky and makes the doll's wig look greasy to me. Maybe I'm the only one who sees it, but that is what I think.

For a first wig you did amazing! My first was so bad that it never was finished, I used waaaaaaay too much hair for the first and ran out and if I got more to finish it the hair would be so thick that there is now way it would lay down. :P The only suggestions I would have is to try and go around in a circle so that the front can get coverage more even with the back and to get some tacky glue or fabric glue rather than mod podge so that if the wig gets wet or you need to wet it for styling you won't end up with a sticky mess. Looking forward to seeing your next try! :D

You can try the sewing weft method that gives a lot of room to work with styling, it's best to place hair wefts in a natural orientation like a human head, style after all your pieces are placed because when you cut it first it may not go as you originally planned :333

I'm making a wig too for my Sailor Mars custom. I'm using Holly O' Hair from the Ballet line, I cut all of her hair, And did a body transfer with a Just Sweet Blondie Lockes doll. And I got the black doll hair from my local Hobby Lobby.
