All points are well taken, except that the reason New York lost four congressional seats to Republicans was not lack of turnout. It was a severely gerrymandered map. That has been corrected. In person early voting here just started on the 27th but we've been able to mail in ballots for weeks. My husband, my daughter and I sent our ballots in two weeks ago.

Thank you for covering this issue. This is why Trump has been campaigning in New York, California & Illinois to pick up Republican seats in the swing districts. This is the "secret plan" Trump was talking about with Mike Johnson. If Johnson is sworn in on January 3rd it helps their plan to create delays and chaos. These swing seats in Democratic States are almost as important as voting in Swing States💙🇺🇸💙

NYer here. I filled out and physically dropped my ballot off at the post office last week. 💪 I think the assumption here where I am (Suffolk County) is that most areas that aren't close to the city go hard red and NYC goes hard blue and it's been that way for a very long time, so everyone just assumes it's not going to be any different this time around. My district in particular has gone red for over 20 years if I'm not mistaken. So we just assume it's not going to change. We have a lot of Fox News boomers out here that makes it feel like we're trying to push through a red wall. I have been always voting each cycle since 2016 regardless but I can see why others are apathetic.

I voted blue in Utah. Republicans are not falling into apathy no matter the state. They fight to scrape together power however they can. Democrats have to finally start fighting back or they’ll just keep being ruled by an oppressive minority party

Both my son (age 24) and I in CA already voted 2 weeks ago. I agree with everything you’re saying (hence our early votes). HOWEVER, the Dem supermajority in this state is not doing the party’s national candidates any favors. The legislature is completely captured and votes in lockstep with whatever Gov Newsom wants, which is mainly a lot of performative legislation. They are not tackling the state’s really hard problems (infrastructure, housing, government oversight) because they are all afraid of upsetting the governor, and by extension, his big donors.

California voter. I mailed my ballot in this morning. DONE. We punted Dana Rohrbacher in 2018 (the rep that Kevin McCarthy said was paid by Putin, paid along with Donald Trump) and flipped every house seat on Orange County to blue. We got this.

Three of four districts are Democrats in Orange County. CA-40 is a conservative district. CA-45 flipped from red to blue. I'm from CA-47 (Irvine). I used to live in Santa Ana (CA-46). It's only 15 mins from there.

NY here, unfortunately, NY leads all states in population decline. Yes, people are leaving NY but if you take away the 5 boroughs of the city, Upstate NY and Long Island are heavily Republican. Only because of the city, we are a blue state.

NYer here. 45 minutes to vote on Saturday (1st day of early voting) and it is the only time I have ever had to wait outside the polling place to get my ballot. Based on demographics, it was a predominantly Republican turnout. I doubt Kamala Harris is in a position where she will lose the state, but it doesn't bode well for our house races.

My newly elected Congressman is Dave Min defeating MAGA Republican Scott Baugh as it retains blue. Three of four districts are Democrats in Orange County. CA-13, CA-27 and CA-45 flipped 3 House seats from red to blue. NY-4, NY-19 and NY-22 flipped 3 House seats from red to blue. California and New York are aiming to win more House seats in 2026. Vice President Kamala Harris will run for governorship in 2026, then will also run for President in 2028.
