I always thought that the song Ven-e Ven-o Ven-a explained Yogi’s reason for not making his feelings clear to Cindy well. In the song it mentions that he’s a shy guy who was a little oblivious and who felt meek when it came to admitting his true feelings for her. And with Cindy being so aggressive in her attempts to win his heart, that only made him more scared and nervous. So with her being gone in this film, it finally gave him room to open-up and realize his true feelings for her.

Animat if the animation is "a lot more smooth than the TV show", it's because they had a budget. Look it up and you will find that a lot fantastic animators also worked on the show as well, including legendary character designer ED Benedict. A TV episode of Yogi bear cost roughly $4000 to produce in the 60s while this movie had a theatrical budget.

I always loved Yogi's Great Escape. That felt more like an cinematic movie than an extension of the show.
@thefantasticretroreviewer39412 жыл бұрын
It was actually part of the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 Movies series that ran from September 20th, 1987 (starting with Yogi's Great Escape that you already mentioned) to November 20th, 1988 (ending with Yogi Bear and the Invasion of the Space Bears).

I had this on VHS as a kid and I loved it. Recently I acquired the DVD and saw it again for the first time in years. While I can see the flaws I didn't notice when I was a kid, I still really enjoyed this. The songs are as catchy as ever, although they do seem to come out of nowhere, but oh well. Plus it's great seeing all those legends of animation's names on the end credits which shows why it was so well animated whilst still being true to the HB style as you said. :D

This was always one of my TOP favorite Hanna Barbera Theatrical Films that I really enjoyed the first time renting it on VHS to seeing it again on TV. I have always enjoyed Yogi Bear no matter how well the character is wrote for but yes this was one of best written script from an animated movie. There are LOTS out there they don't do them justice. Great movie and love all the characters in it. Hanna Barbera did it first and very glad happy they gave it their all.

The only thing that distracts me about the songs is that different people do Yogi, Boo Boo and Cindy's singing voices; although I guess I can understand why James Darren sings "Ven-e, Ven-o, Ven-a" because that one's supposed to be more romantic.

Now that you've done this film I'm hoping you do another film you mentioned in the Hanna-Barbera Animation Lookback particularly Tom & Jerry: The Movie. HE'S REVIEWING CORALINE! AAHHHHHHHHHHH! It's definitely one of my most favorite animated movies of all time. I've seen it like 50+ times. It's a genuine masterpiece and it just makes me entirely sad that Henry Sellick doesn't really make stop-motion movies anymore. Imo the movie is even better than the book. Don't get me wrong Neil Gaiman crafted an amazing story, but Coraline in the book...she wasn't that great. She was essentially an Alice clone, while in the movie she's a lot more tomboyish and witty. Plus the movie added Wybey as well. I'm just a sucker for fantasy stories of a young girl entering a creepy fantasy world, which's why I adored Fran Bow.
