One of the things that I love about Assassin's Creed is that the games dialogue gives off completely different vibes in each language. This scene is a pretty good example for that. First, we have the joke. A joke that only works in English. So in every other language they had to think about another racist joke Desmond could make in this situation. And those jokes just go from funny accents to straight up insults. Then, we heard Desmond say "fucking", which happens quite a lot throughout the series. But only in the English version. In the English voice over, the characters all talk pretty "normally" like real people would in their day to day life. But in the German version, for example, all the characters speak in a way that seems much more scripted, and thus conveying completely different emotions. While English feels more like people actually having a huge problem they can't handle, German sounds more like people having a huge problem that they in fact can handle (mostly because they swear less lol). Desmond only very rarely uses words like "shit" or similar things in the German version. And when he does, he's usually not saying it in an aggressive way like he's using "fucking" in this scene. All in all, it's very fascinating to see how the dialogue in media is changing according to language and country.

But according to Rebecca, he's a racist because he relieves a little stress messing around with an inanimate statue and parodying the way Altair spoke. what i always liked about this scene is the implication Desmond makes that none of them pick up on. he says "god forbid i take a break, i've only been stuck in that machine for 3 f*^king weeks.", and then says "This isn't easy you know?", to which they pop off that it's hard work for/hard on everyone, missing the point that while it may be hard work, he's literally being forced to live other people's lives and hasn't had a chance to live his own since abstergo kidnapped him. he's losing his own identity(even moreso if we remember the "animus bleed" effect), and now that he finally is free of abstergo and not essentially being forced into the machine at gunpoint, he has a chance to relax and reconnect to himself for a minute, and he's immediately chastised for it, and of all things, he's chastised for what's essentially self deprecating racial humor, something we kinda all do to a lesser or greater degree. i'm from a family of new york jews, and i'll often put on the stereotypical "Jewish/Yiddish" accent or reinforce a jewish stereotype for comedic effect, my grandfather did the same thing. I remember growing up, my grandparents would meet someone else who was very obviously or performatively jewish, and after the conversation ended and they left, my grandfather would turn to my grandmother, lay the accent on real thick, and say "Feh...Not for me, *too* jewish...", lol.

What’s funny is that it’s not even really self deprecating as all he did was say what’s a matter with you Altair in a bad stereotypical Italian accent. Like seriously? And what’s funny is that Desmond is the one that’s of Italian decent in that room (to my knowledge). So I don’t se why Rebecca or anyone else is getting mad at him for such a nothing joke.

This is exactly how AC games should be it’s beautiful how you can visit the modern day locations that you saw in the past as an assassin. In this game they go to Italy and then in AC3 they go to America. And you get to play in the past and the present the same city
