Hey Birt! Maybe you can add a very low power LED on either side of the PB100's display to make it a "side" lit display... with the white paper as a backing, it should reflect quite nicely.
@HeyBirt2 жыл бұрын
The light needs to travel through both polarizers. For any sort of backlight the rear polarizer is a transreflective type that lets light through toward the outside.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear... I'm not suggesting a backlit display... but rather a side lit one... a la my old Casio watch. The side lit LED is just at the right side edge of the LCD. The LED isn't going through the LCD, but rather the light is travelling on top of it. It makes it more visible, but really doesn't help the contrast, whereas a backlit one would. Similar to the way a reading light doesn't enhance a books contrast, but allows it to be read.

Very good! I have an FX-890P with LCD "burn". Any further comments you make on the replacement of the reflective polariser tape would be very helpful.

I just picked one up from Japan (it isn't here as of yet). Looks mint and has the 256K upgrade. :) Where do you go for info and downloads for it? Thanks!

Nice to see your collection of Casio Pokémons! I would like to see the rear reflective/polarizer replacement attempt in a video as well. I have a bunch of the Casio Graphing Calculators (FX-7000G and FX-7800G) that have similar issues with the rear polarizer and some with the front polarizer as well that has oxidation (big black spot) or that have turned purple and are separating from the LCD itself and I have ordered some replacement polarizers/reflectors to see if I can repair them as well so I would certainly be interested in how you get along with your attempt. I also got some thin white backlight panels for a Nintendo Gameboy and I think I am going to try and backlight a few of these graphing calculators as well and see how that experiment goes. On the FX-820P, those threaded brass inserts you mentioned are for the bottom cover screws for the bottom cover which apparently did not come with your FX-820P. I still need to pick up a few of your 32K RP-33 Rampacks as well as some ALPS brass gears for the printers in some of my PB-700 / FA-10 / FA-11 units. I got a few sets of NOS pens from BEST Electronics that apparently ATARI uses the same ALPS mechanism in the Atari 1020 Color Plotter. Also the FA-10 / FA-11 printer expansion units have 5 C-Cell Ni-CD battery packs in them. #GTDBO! Keep up the awesome work Birt! Looking forward to your next endeavors!

It makes sense that there should be a back on the FX-820P. I'll find a picture and see if I can replicate something similar. With a backlight you need a different type of rear polarizer, this may come built into the backlight panels you got. Check the orientation of the panel polarizer to make sure it is 90 degree to the font one.

ahh this looks so nice, I'm envious im tempted to fix my old FX-880P, but I don't know to test it (*all* screws are stripped, and the screen's ribbon cable is somewhat damaged, not to mention i messed up the speaker while trying to clean it) do you know of any places that sell screws for that model?

I have been able to find small screws like this on eBay.

I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 Sharp pocket computers, and aside from a couple of the early models that have known issues with the LCD, they all seem to just work. Do you find them to be more reliable than Casio machines?
@HeyBirt2 жыл бұрын
Both Casio and Sharp both seem to fail in similar frequency. Different models of both brands have LCD problems. I've seen odd RAM/ROM failures on both brands too.
