Here in the south of south America we tie our bait (we use shrimp a lot!) with kinda very thin elastic thread. We go many times around the bait on the hook with the thread so we prevent it loosening and falling off or be taken by those small fishs and crabs. In the past old anglers used threads from lady’s nylon stockings for that purpose. Great videos!!!!

A little tip. (You may already know) Get some FishBites and put a small piece on the hook after you put on your other bait. It will allow you to use less real bait, while keeping it from slipping off the hook via casting or via another fish. Even if some reason you lose the [lets say] shrimp, you will still have the FishBites to possibly lure in more fish.
@HeySkipper3 жыл бұрын

Actually salted my own chicken quarters last year for crabbing, and it worked so well. got about a bussel of crabs on the single trap over the course of a day and the chicken wasn't even to the bone. But squiddy bits and shrimpy bits have changed the game, a fll day of fishing with only one or two pieces vs having to use over a pound of bait.
@HeySkipper3 жыл бұрын
Salted baits work so well! I’ve heard of salted chicken, but that sounds like a great idea for crab bait!

enjoyed this one, it's just very engaging when you let you joy of fishing shine through. It's even more fun to watch with your whole family involved. ever considered discussing some wet/windy weather clothing. And how on beaches with rips & rough surf waders can stop being a good thing if ya fall into the water. Asking mostly as we have zero real sporting goods shops, ok Big 5 but most there can't really offer informed help. Given your knack for explaining and detailing the reasons would be super helpful?

Hi Renee, shrimp is the best bait you could use for saltwater fishing, and will catch anything from pinfish to sharks and anything in-between. So maybe look at your terminal tackle, change hook sizes, weights or line perhaps. Because you should be hooking up with shrimp.

I live in NC and surf fish exclusively here and in VA. What Island are you fishing from. When I saw that croaker I instantly thought of Ocracoke Island. You must be on the Outer Banks somewhere. I have written you before as I collect and restore Surf Spinning reels. I have over 130 reels now. Recently I finished building an all chrome Mitchell 498 Surf fishing reel completely from parts. It took 2 1/2 months to find the parts and get them all to fit. Had to get some from France. I don’t intend to fish with it as it is just too beautiful to mess up and I have 2 other 498s I use. I love your vintage tackle videos and some of the crazy stuff you used to do. Keep up the great videos. I love your enthusiasm and your relationship with your father! -- Chris
