Perhaps folk should also consider that the valve amps need a few minutes to warm up.. which doesn’t seem much, but surprisingly slow when you find that DX contact. You guys sold me an Acom 1500…. Very satisfied.. Solid state wont tolerate over driving… bear in mind modern FETS can be destroyed within a single cycle.. so although these amps do have considerable safety features they can still be destroyed.. as you mention… it does log YOUR mistakes and single large FET costs are very high… Good info Tony…. YES i AGREE LOOK IT I have been in the cb community for a ton of years and ive seen thousands of amps get blown up by being over volted over driven and then some RULE NUMBER ONE AND THE ONLY RULE BUY A AMP THAT IS BIG ENOUGH FOR WHAT YOU NEED NEVER OVER VOLT IT OR OVER WATT IT! Buy a amp that you can run 50 percent or no more than 75 percent have 50 percent more power for over head on hand to run the amp. the rule of thumb is to have a healthy running system with out beating on your equipment and killing your power source! I can keep going on this topic but if need to be im here to keep great advice.

Hi,good interesting video, well explained, my Acom 1500 amplifier is 8 years old, and on its original tube, round 30 watt's in 400 ++ out,👍 unfortunately I had to replace the transformer 18 months ago ☹, in the long term, I think to much power, is better than to little, 73s from Rotterdam 👍 Reply

Almost the same , SB-200 i bought as a kit and 2 tiny homebrew tube amplifiers (35 to 40 years old). Basic , simple and very easy for any troubleshooting .
