Finally! An instruction video that is an instruction video! Absolutely no unnecessary talking. Straight forward, step by step. Great job. Thank you. Others on KZbin should take note, no matter what the topic. This is the way it should be done.

I built roughly the same antenna (resold by ARRL for Field Day 2021). The ARRL version was lower power, I believe, and covered 40/20/15/10M. Using a nanoVNA I was able to trim the length (removing about 2.5' in increments) to get the SWR minimum to fall at the start of the 40 & 20M bands (but closer to the middle of the 10M band), perfect for digital work. I have been very happy with the performance. A week ago I replaced the ~62' wire with a 130' wire, and am now able to work 80M too, w/o a tuner. If I ever build one from scratch, I'll use two or three toroidal cores stacked to handle more power. Even 80 Watts, operating digital (WinLink), is too much for the single toroid core supplied with my kit.

I made the Quad loop 2:1 choke/balun kit. Came out great and works great for a delta loop. Top quality and fast reasonable shipping to Alaska. Perfectly flat SWR 40 meter delta loop. I also built one of these 49:1 1/2 wave on 75 for NVIS operation. Works great.

Interesting the corners cut by companies charging a premimum. No ground lug? 250 watts I would think they would want 2 cores instead of 1. Curious as to what AWG magnet wire it is? You did a fine job on the build. From experience I would say put the SO-239 on the outside as you lose some thread length going on the inside but looks like a good build.

Put your S0239 inside. You lose threads to the wall thickness of the box. How long is the twisted section?

Take care: if you are building the 100 W version the holes for the connectors must be drilled in the box turned 90°. Found out after i followed this video with the 250 Watts version.

..looks like 43 material (no red paint) .. winding the core, put the end of the twisted part into the chuck of that drill.. makes a neater tighter job.

These 1:49 Ununs and in fact nearly everything I have tried to make using a toroid has NEVER worked out on the right freq and impedance when analysing after construction. Slight change of winding spacing, slight change of position has all made a wild difference. These things are like black magic to me. One day...... lol Also i have had different results of freq depending on the toroid and mix used which hasn’t always been the ones stated.

This was built incorrectly making it very tight with the post next to the SO-239. If you look at the "instructions" the box should have been drilled on the sides (from the way it is shown in the video). That gives you more room to work. As has been pointed out by WA7ARK in his eHam review, the antenna does not resonate on any band except 40 meters (if you trim the wire). See WA7ARK's article to get this antenna to work as advertised.
@twohandsandaradio3 жыл бұрын
The build is fine. He made it his own. Slow down Sparky or make some content of your own and show us the "right" way.
@PC1I3 жыл бұрын
@@twohandsandaradio Not only there is nothing wrong with the kit, WA7ARK is using his EFHW in a flat dipole configuration and not in the sloping configuration that is used by everyone that uses EFHW antenna's. Claiming the manufacturer does not know his product... The kit is fine, the results you can have with these antenna's are OK. And, the theory given on the webpage for this kit is providing pros and cons for this antenna type so builders can know what to expect...

I had to open my Chameleon Emcomm III because one of their nuts wasnt tight and the wingnut was spinning the bolt. They fill the inside of theirs with what seemed to be dielectric grease. At least that is what I assumed it was and I “topped” it off before closing it back up. Just thought that was a pretty good idea though. Would ensure no moisture could cause any issues in the long term

@HFKits5 жыл бұрын
For field work an external counterpoise isn't necessary. The coax shield will be used as counter poise. For permanent solutions at home a counter poise and common mode choke will be recommended.

I seen two mistakes in this video and the first one is the wire twists are not wound up tightly and the other is the length of wasted wire . Other than that I like the idea of building your own end fed transformer for a Long wire antenna .

I know this all about HAM Radio I just SWL I'm not a mathmatician to calculate my own Balun.. Currently i'm using a 49:1 big diff..(Best up to now) as went from none to 9:1 then 49:1.. I seen hints that a 150:1 is possible.. but can't find instructions to wrap one..just want to try to see what happens Would be sweet to RX 30KHz to 30MHz.. (Set-up now) only starts 500KHz to 25MHz give or take. not very strong signals above 25MHz could say "ZERO". Guess i'm wishing for too much.
