One, which would certainly ring true, was that as a child he was bullied severely due to being biracial. And, of course, Louisiana was a very reluctant state to get rid of state sanctioned racism. In fact, you can extrapolate if Alastor were half black/half white in turn of the 20th century Louisiana he would have been "born on the wrong side of the blanket" as they say, because mixed race marriage wasnillegal until 1967! So, he could have been bullied by white kids for being too dark and bullied by black kids for being too light and looked down upon by almost everyone for being illegitimate.
