Screened cables should not be bonded to ground at both ends, but only at scourse end.

Good point, can create extra ground loops grounding both ends.

a thought: peavey mace tube amp. x-formers mounted at 45 degree angles so that the field planes had no chance at interaction with each other(so the theory goes). i can attest that i have not had problems with flux induced hum from the little critters on stage or recording. can't say the same for the marshall jmp50 head i originally used. set another head near it and it would do the 60hz buzz every time.

I've often thought of drilling a hole in the output trans end cover and run the plate wire through that to minimize lenth.

At 26:00 why would AC feed to the chokes and then to the rectifier?

Can you have 1 choke and then split L/R after?

Is going to be an audio Amplifier or an RF transmitter?
@stephenstudley1857 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, This question relates to previous videos. I thought it would be ok to post it on your most recent video. I have several transformers of varying types, kicking around the bench. I have 2 Hammond 1615's for my output drivers and I have a Hammond 272FX I’m hoping I can use for the power supply. I’m not sure if the 272FX will cover all the circuits in the triode dick design. The 272FX has CT 600V @173mA, CT 5V @ 3A and CT 6.3V @ 5A. That should cover it, yes? The fact that they are CT circuits means, I have 2 of each, yes? So 2 5V @ 3A and so on? I can always spring for a new transformer if necessary. But if I can use what I have lying around without compromising the final product, why not use what I have.

All the high voltage cables should be tightly twisted so, I think the induced rotating magnetic field components cancel each other. Can you please comment on that. Sometimes I see cables like spaghetti sometimes tightly twisted. Thank you for reading.

An IEC jack with an integrated power switch would be ideal for replacing the front panel power switch.

what about mounting the Transformers in a lead shielded box this surely would be the best way! I don't think you would get any magnetic field leakage
@erin190304 жыл бұрын
What does lead have to do with magnetic fields? What you really need is Mu metal $$$$$.

I prefer copper plated steel or aluminum.

Excellent video Mark, thank you! I am curious what your thoughts are on powder coating the chassis? Will that have any impact, positive or negative on component layout? Also, I have noticed many tube amps (Dynaco, Mac, etc.) have cages over the entire unit or sometimes just the tubes. Probably just for heat protection? I have a friend who made this really cool individual tube cage/hood, out of those little metal pencil cup holders. He just used a hole saw about an 1" or so, to cut out the bottom so it dropped slightly down the tube, enough to it the chassis with the lip. They are pretty ingenious I have to admit and they look kind of cool too!

Stephen Studley and use two silicone o rings on the tubes to eliminate any harmonics
@Blueglow7 жыл бұрын
Powder coating will not hurt anything, however you will need to scrape it off inside the chassis anywhere you want to connect a ground lug or establish a ground like where the rca or speaker jacks connect.

never ground shielded cables on both ends, only ground on ONE end or you'll get ground loops and more noise than what you would get just by using unshielded cables
