This song is insanely difficult... it took my band I almost 10 months to learn... but this song is what got us 3rd place in the Reno Jazz Festival against high schoolers as 8th/9th/10th graders. Amazing song, simply amazing.

This music is like if The Brand New Heavies fucked Neneh Cherry, and had a baby. Then that baby grew up, put a tight ass band together, and then 70's era Herbie Hancock wrote the music for them.

"Choose Your Weapon" is one of the best neo soul Albums of the 2010's. It's a classic!! Mark my words. This album will be heard, remembered and collected for the years to come because of songs like this one. It took some time for me to fully grasp the genius, creativity and the fact that it's so out of the box. The band again is amazing on this track and the singer touches my heart with such a depth in the melodies she sings!!

+Fudgecake it's all in 4/4. They just play with the concept of 3/4 inside of 4/4. The figure is over two bars of 4/4. They give the feel of 3/4 with the dotted quarter notes but that only covers 6 beats which is why it seems like there are two stray beats at the end which messes people up even more. So four dotted quarter notes and then two quarter notes makes it seem like a really odd time signature or for some the hear a bar of 3/4 then 5/4 but it's just all 4/4.

What sorcery is this? Seriously, this song has magical powers. It temporarily (in my case two weeks) makes you incapable of listening to anything else. What an odyssey. Progressive yet accessible. Deep, mystical. Propulsive and soothing. Funky as all get out, and Nai Palm sings the s*** out of it. A modern classic. You can see how deeply moved people are by this song in the comments. Probably the song of the decade.

In the past week or so since I first discovered this band - and this song, I estimate I've heard this song 60 or more times now by way of just leaving it on repeat one forever! This song is the EVERYTHING GOOD AND RIGHT WITH THE WORLD! I'm too non-committal and fickle to be able to commit to a "best song of all time" designation for any song...but this is definitely the best song in the world "of the moment" for me! This song is so fresh and unique, and yet somehow also manages to invoke so many things for me! It invokes early 2000's Jazzanova, mid-late 70's Genesis, early 80's Math educational videos, 80's video games, and even the Sega Genesis version of the NBA JAM team select theme! Nai Palm's vocals even invoke some unspecifiable late 90's and early 2000's mid-tempo / chill electronica. Gosh, I'm gushing! I just CANT GET OVER THIS TRACK!!!!!! Whoever thumbs downed this thing is utterly soulless and should feel only the most searing furnace blast of public shame!!!!!!

Time signature... I spent a week trying to figure this out... Heres my take: The main beat during the verse (starting 0:32) is in 10/8, however, the phrasing is devied into 3 plus 7 beats. which equals 10. Because 3 + 7 adds upp to 10 the drums can play "four to the floor" without being interruped so that makes the song easy to listen too, in other words its easy to clap along in quarter notes. eventough the phrasing ontop of the beat is complex and plays two sets of odd time-signatures (3+7). (genious if you ask me) On top of that the drummer messes it all upp by playing the one on the 3 + 7 part with a snare hit. so the beat becomes kind of inverted and you lose track of the one... usually the drummer starts the one with a bassdrum hit... but you all knew that allready... enjoy this masterpiece

+EverythingAtOnce A lot of Hiatus Kaiyote's stuff sounds like it could have ended up on You're Dead! even just based on structure alone. Such good stuff.

+Cpointman417 Thundercat is an active part of Flylo's production. Also, I've heard Hiatus and Thundercat have chilled around together a few times. But damn, just fathom the collab between Flylo and Hiatus. "Fliatus kaiyote" or some shit like that. XD

unless you're equally musically proficient and/or creative I'd think you'd have to make it sound as close to the original as possible lmao
