Donut, please let me give John some pointers on shooting. First thing is he needs a wrist strap so he doesn’t have to grip the bow. If you read this tell him this: don’t grasp the bow in your hand, let it seat itself into the V between your thumb and index finger and just let your and be loose. Second, slow steady squeeze. Let the shot surprise you just like shooting a rifle. I’ve noticed him jerk his shots and if he can get into the habit of not immediately trying to look for his shot, his accuracy and repeatability will increase immensely. So if you read this, message me on Twitter and we can further discuss🤙🏻

I could relate to John so hard when he said "I never knew life looked like this". When i was in the 2nd grade i hated the idea of getting glasses and finally my parents forced me to get them. Before the fact I read all the time and always had my nose in a book (yes I was that kid), because of this i never knew my eyes were bad .

Awesome vlog this week! So much good. I first got glasses at 10 so empathy to John as I really needed them at 7 so I totally relate to the I can see the world now thing. But, John, nice choice! They look good and it is good to have the world unblur. The Hibachi - that was a performance! The man is skilled. Thanks for sharing that. Emma's art was awesome! So was John's dance. And you're all such good shots.

Something to do with a bow is to let your hand that is holding the bow open a bit and it also helps if you get a wrist strap for it to be able to hold it like that.

Open and ballance the bow in holding hand like a 90 degree high five in the webbing between your index and thumb and grip only after release, thats what your counter weight is for. Clinching the bow with a tight grip makes you shoot low and wide every time. Grab the bow after you release the shot if that makes sense.

I have four Genesis bows. 1 big/1 small right handed bow, and 1 big/ 1 small left handed bow. Not for myself, but they are usefull for whenever me and my dad teach new shooters. Genesis X bows are great to learn on. But once you get to be really good with your Genesis bow, consider moving on to a bow from Bear Archery, Mission by Mathews, or Hoyt. All great brands, making quality products. I shoot a Bear bow, and have for 7 years, highly recommend. The Genesis bows I have are for teaching new shooters, but I do occasionally shoot them with my off hand for fun, so Genesis bows can be fun for everyone, even if you've shot for years and years like I have. I'm right handed, and my compound bow has a draw weight of 60 pounds, but sometimes shooting a left handed Genesis bow with a 20 pound draw is fun, and different. It's more challenging, as my Genesis bows don't have sights, my personal bow does. Point is that, eventually John will grow out of the Genesis bow, but it can still be a lot of fun, even if you have a much nicer, tricked out bow. So you can't go wrong with a Genesis X, and whoever was working in that shop did a good job.

Don't grip the bow with your whole hand. You bend, twist and tweak as you're anticipating the release. i personally lean the bow in-between my thumb and index finger, right in the web, almost none of my fingers touch the handle. There's a lanyard that goes around your wrist to catch the bow after your release. I had a hoyt bow I bought for $50 Upgraded it with all the new stuff, tru glow sights, whisker biscuit etc.... I could group 3 arrows all touching up to 30 yards.

Quick tip you don't want to actually grip the bow. The pressure of pulling the string will keep it in place. Gripping the bow makes your arm shake making you less accurate. Look up how Olympic archers grip there bow, I'm terrible at explaining things.
