Every episode is fraught with suspense - waiting on the edge of my sofa for Dutch to sacrifice the obligatory long pour on the table to appease the whiskey gods. The rarer the whiskey, the longer the pour... Dillon, time for you to go to J-school, bro. Bonsai is pronounced, "bone-sigh." Shaking my head... Jules, you get a pass only because I know you have a rice cooker and a karaoke machine. Props for keeping my relatives in business - domo arigato (please translate that to Dillon for the love of whiskey). 😉

Love seeing you guys back in action! Appreciate how the new reviews cover all sorts of spirits. One piece of constructive criticism: we'd love to see each of your individual score breakdowns across all catergoeies before you average them out- similar to how it was all displayed at once towards the ends of Bourbon Guild episodes. Keep it up guys!

The abrupt finish is actually very interesting to me. The hibiki disappears all of the sudden - but leaves a smooth after taste which is a nice trinking experience. Surprisingly soft and subtle, but not boring at all.

Nikka Coffey is pretty good and it’s around that price.

I bought it in Aug 2020 for $60 at Costco, and the price has more than doubled since then.

Nice show, thx. I have one bottle of Japanese Whiskey called Nikka Rare Old Super. Funny looking bottle I bought a couple of years ago. But I don't think I ever considered opening it, I don't know why, maybe cause its just 43% and I read it is smooth and balanced ... BORING ;)
@johell9994 жыл бұрын
Hibiki is good. But 1/4 of its cost was on that beautiful bottle and another 1/4 came from the Japanese whiskies hype. Now, if you guys get to try Nikka FTB, that is one great bottle of whisky.

Thanks for the video, folks. At the moment in Australia, a bottle like this one sells for around AUD200, which is roughly 150 USD. If that isn't absolutely mental, I don't know what is. And guess who just bought one ?

It's always interesting to taste Scotch whisky! Even if is a blend that tou can buy for 5€ a litter. Japanese design bottle is the only thing genuine.

Another great video and review fellas. Being Japanese Amererican I think no one loves asian stereotypes used in humor more than other Asian Americians. The gong sound effect should make both Mr. Miyagi and Hattori Hanzo cringe...most disharmonious!

Dylan, disagree with you on the finish, you want a long finish when sipping a whisky end of the day, but Japanese whisky is made to go with food & I personally don’t want a long finish when eating Sushi.

To me, Hibiki, as it stands now, is like the Johnnie Walker Black level. You can sip it but you can mix it too.
@MrPsiman4 жыл бұрын
this is not like the 12 at all and not trying to be. They finished 12 in Umeshu plum wine cask. it was never intended to be like the 12. all the whisky in Harmony are at least 10 years old but a much different blend than the 12. I wish people would stop comparing them. Every Hibiki is very different in their blends.
@rangeradams4 жыл бұрын
The only common thing throughout their entire line is that they're all overrated. Not worth the secondary, for sure. Barely worth the MSRP when you compare comparable dram coming out of Taiwan, Scotland, and even *gasp* India.
@MrPsiman4 жыл бұрын
@@rangeradams I agree and Japanese whisky in general is way over priced for what it is. I can get stuff out of Scotland at same price that is so much better. Bourbon prices have got out of hand as well.

I really like your videos! However, I want to point out that I think it is not very accurate to say "...peat that you normally smell in scotches..." (Dillon 5:59). I believe Dillon probably knows this, but only a MINORITY of scotches has peat in them, most of them have not. So just for clarity and to reduce misconceptions about scotch I think it is important to point this out. But perhaps Dillon actually meant that many people ASSOCIATE peat with scotches (ironically based on statements like the one Dillon made here).
