Actually, a few things from the second movie cross over into this, like how Krogan was working for Drago Bloodfist, and the ending explains how Hiccup's mom got the bewilderbeast, don't ask how it grew into that giant in the span of just a few years, and there's also fishlegs and snotlout fighting over Ruffnut, which STILL seems completely random.
