Hi Gramps in Bedford. This is Gramps in Henryville. You may have already done this but I ended putting the axle on top of the springs, raised the hitch ball height and got a couple of 5 ft. roller bunks. Closer to the water and one little push and it's in the water. I tried the pvc and wooden carpeted bunks, but the rollers are the best. I have a Jackson Big Rig. Probably over 160lbs easy with the battery. Only problem is getting it back on the trailer...keeps wanting to slide back in, but I kind of got it down pat now. I could use my boat crank again but I got to get a little exercise. Just a couple more ideas that might help someone. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Very nice setup.

Hey Gramps - two questions. 1 - I don’t see the video you mentioned about how to put carpet on the 2x4 bunks. Where is that? 2 - I have old bunks with the L-shaped brackets you screw into the wood from a jet ski trailer. So I have those L-shaped brackets. I don’t have the bracket that attaches the bunks to the trailer frame. Where did you get those flat pieces with the holes you used as risers you u-bolted to the trailer frame. Thanks!

Also from Southern Indiana. Converting my old 20’ seaark trailer into multi carrying kayak trailer. I’ll probably incorporate a few of the things you’ve done here. As well as some thoughts and ideas of others that built kayak trailers. Just not sold on the PVC. Subjected to crack to easily. Where do you fish? Patoka? Haven’t been on my kayak there yet.

I avoid Patoka like the plague. Brush Creek, Bluegrass, Boggs

@@FishinWithGramps we fish a lot out of a boat on the Ohio river. Giant cats are always a target. But, we catch a lot of big bass, (large, Smallmouth and Spotted bass) in the creeks in the fall

Great video, watched your videos all the time. There's a problem that I'm having is backing up the trailer which I can't see the trailer at all. I'm hauling my 106 pdl with a 10 1/2 ft. Ski trailer with my 1/2 ton truck. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Grab a kayak flag from Yakattack and put it on the back when you go to launch. Good for reference when backing and on the water safety

Hey, have the same trailer and 2 106 pdl. I'm waiting on my bunk hardware to show up after being on backorder. Did you find having 12" of bunk sticking out the back enough length for wet launching? Do you wish you had gone longer? I'm doing the same setup as you other than mine will fit 2 kayaks. Made my bunks 84" and will have them run all the way to the drop down on the kayak in the front like you did.

Are you able to launch with this setup? I have the eco light with the bunks and it's way too high to ramp launch. There are some cross bars that make it high.

Wood bunks will not line up with a Sportsman kayak hull , have to use 3” pvc !

Not at all, Old Town actually sells the Malone Trailers with the wooden bunks on their website.
