@timothyadcock5103 after going through a few holsters one realizes that they aren't at all the same and even the best can't fix the issue of choosing the wrong pistol. Those who actually carry concealed everywhere everyday for years know. Those who just dabble at the commitment never really have as many issues.

I’ve got a million small carryable semi autos but the older I get the more I like just a simple snubbie revolver. I’ve been carrying my 6 shot S&W UC432 in 32HR magnum. It’s been great. 👍🏻

Right on. I'm in same boat. I love my Ruger lcr 327mag snubbed. I use a Masters leather holster in cool to cold weather for ease of concealment and sticky pocket holster in summer. Most of the time I don't even realize I'm still carrying until I may need it. Just harder to find shorts with deep pockets. And always carry speed loader.

I've come to the same conclusion. I prefer the Ruger LCR. I carry the .38 Special most of the time in a sticky holster. You need at least a light jacket or hoodie here 9 months of the year. I can pocket carry it in my jacket/vest. Then quickly and easily stick it IWB. For the experts saying 5 shots isn't enough I ask "Not enough for what?" To stop the attack? It's a get off me tool. I think it's a better "fighting" pistol cuz it never jams even if making contact shots. If I run it dry I have other options on my person at all times. Impact tools, flashlight, knife.

With the size of our family, my wife had the opportunity to try may options. She couldn't stop flinching with a simi auto because she knew the casings was going to fly out. She now carries an S&W 38 special with a 2 in barrel. She is good enough to put 6 rounds in the bottom of a coke can at 10-15 yards. Point is find what you are comfortable with.

When it comes to capacity, I'm reminded of a 2013 incident where a man broke into a home in Georgia. Inside the home was a mother and her two children. In spite of the mother warning him that she had a gun, the intruder cornered the mother and her two children in the attic. She fired five rounds of .38 into his face and torso, puncturing his lungs, liver and stomach. Her handgun was empty. Still, he was able to get into his car and drive away. He was apprehended later and hospitalized, where he was placed on a ventilator for a time. Unfortunately, he survived and is serving time. What if he hadn't been alone?

If we're sticking to real life situations, pretty much any criminal who witnesses his co-criminal getting hit 5 times is usually going to run. They are cowardly by nature. He's probably going to book it after the 1st shot. I would also point out that for the criminal to get hit that many times that it meant that he got really close (she was in an attic) so he was probably walking up the stairs, or ladder, which would have put that dumbass in tight kill box. Again, not many people would continue to press an attack after that. That being said, it probably would have been better if she had an auto with a 10+ round mag but she got through ok. Kudos to her.

@@gunbutter830I agree that most criminals are indeed cowards, but I would also never put my family's life on the line for a "probably". Good for her for arming herself and using her tool, but it's a shame to be in that situation with an empty gun. And extremely scary. Even the most small and pitiful of Glocks hold more than a .38 revolver, so I hope afterwards she upgraded to at least a 10+ rd 380, if not a full 9mm

👍I carry a small RUGER 9mm or SW Shield PLUS in summer as attire is much less. Sometimes just the LCP. Fall & winter carry, I get the larger ones out. Rotate my SIG 229, SW 4006, my 40s. Many of my larger, heavier revolvers get out too and 1791 OWB leather has a chance to breathe with a good, sturdy belt. Past few weeks I have enjoyed the older, heavy REALL METAL ones. Thx Hickok45, you’re the best. 👍🇺🇸

Good and thoughtful advice as usual. I’m older but didn’t get into guns until 2020. I’m retired military so nothing against guns but still wasn’t particularly knowledgeable so it’s been a journey. I’m right there with you now. I have a range of pistols as large as the Dan Wesson Specialist which I actually lugged around for awhile with an inside the waistband leather holster 😅. Now at 43oz loaded it’s a range gun. I too have numerous pistols, nothing compared to you of course, but more than several. I now find myself frequently carrying my P238 .380 in a sticky holster and I sometimes carry a little P938 Legion in a leather holster and I’ve stopped worrying about capacity. I do take my S&W M&P .40 in a leather holster, I’ve switched to always leather, when I walk the dog at night winter or summer sometimes the Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 ACP 3”. Over time I find myself sensitive to weight. Once in a great while I’ll carry a M11a1/P229 that I bought because I like the military version but I’m into smaller guns now. I also carry infrequent my P365 XL and P365SAS as a pocket carry in a sticky holster. I like it but I’ve slowly become more of a thumb safety sorta guy. I go to the range frequently and shoot most of my guns regularly. I like that as if you go daily you figure the times when nobody’s there. Shooting the big guns and the guns like my. Kimber K6s 2” or the Colt Python 4.25” neither of which have I ever carried I find really help me in learning to effectively shoot smaller guns. I just purchased a S&W CSX 9mm which I’m liking although it’s a bit larger for pocket carry and I’m gonna pick up the new S&W 380 2.0 first chance I get. I looked at one and it’s just my size and way lighter than either the P238 or the P938 which are both fairly hefty medal guns for their size. I’ve also taken several pistol courses which I would have argued I didn’t need, but I did which also helped. I’m 6’5” with larger hands not like your 6’9” and larger hands but still slightly problematic. I guess my advice is get started and you’ll figure it out and the more time, money, and focus you add the clearer your choice. But in the end it’s like that FBI thing I’ve heard on KZbin videos about gunfights being 3 seconds, 3 meters, 3 shots in the end anyway. Good talk got me thinking and got me going.

For me, the most important factor is carrying it everyday. It needs to be small enough and comfortable enough that you'll carry, but big enough that you can shoot it proficiently. Find a Gun Range where you can rent different handguns to try, or ask a buddy to try some of theirs. Most days for me, its a S&W shield 1.0 9mm ( 8 rd primary, spare 9 rd mag ).

My every day carry is a Glock 42 with Trijicon HD XR Night Sights and a 9 round ETS magazine fitted with an XGRIP for a full three-finger grip. I load the magazine with 8 rounds maximum, plus one in the chamber, to ensure 100% reliability. Ammo of choice is Underwood Extreme Penetrator 380+P. This combination has very little recoil, is very controllable and EXTREMELY accurate! I carry it 24/7 in a DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster and honestly it's so light and compact that I forget it's there. The best self-defense pistol is the one you never leave home without!

My journey started with the S&W 3914/3913. Tried a Kel-Tec P-3AT. Then a Smith 442 J-frame. Currently I own 3 Rugers; LC9S Pro (no external safety, no mag disconnect), LCR 38 Special, and the LCP MAX .380. The only thing that keeps me from carrying the LCP MAX all the time is the trigger. I'm not comfortable carrying a gun like that in my pocket. I have a Kydex holster but it's bulky. Works perfectly IWB. The revolver meets my current needs. Easy to carry and conceal, 109% reliable for me with whatever I feed it. The trigger is the deciding factor for me in favor of the LCR. I was not skilled enough when I owned the J-frame to shoot it accurately. The .22LR and 22Mag versions are on my wishlist. New York Reload.

My LE career began in 1968 & we were required to be armed off duty. My service weapon was a Colt Official Police and concealing it on my skinny frame was tough. Purchased a Colt Cobra for off duty and have carried a small/light revolver ever since. A few years ago I p/u a Ruger LCP and carry that when the J Frame cannot be adequately concealed. I’ve never found anything better than either of these for EDC. In ‘74 I was in a gunfight w/my issued Colt Detective Special and while I was able to put down the bad guy, you’ll always want a cannon or machine gun when/if you find yourself in a deadly encounter.

Honestly feel it's an even more dangerous world, especially for women. Even with a firearm I'm not putting myself in risky situations, such as hiking in the woods alone. I'm not going to invite predators. I'll keep it for home defense mostly, but carry when I want to.

Personally, my girlfriend really likes her Bersa 380 Plus. 15 rounds of 380 hollows can be plenty against an intruder or mugger, and it doesn't buck out of her hands like my 9mm guns do. Also not to heavy and not too big so it fits in all of her bags. There's also +P ammo for the 380 in case anyone doubts it's effectiveness, and they're nasty little buggers after seeing some gel and ballistics tests.

My initial CCW was a Taurus J-frame Titanium 5-shot revolver snubnose. A cheap "Soft Armor" holster between my belt and outside my pants. It was small and close to my hip, and my shirt tail out was "concealed." I moved and felt like I needed, bigger, better, more. So, I went to a Springfield XD 3.0-inch .40 S&W (9+1). I like grip safety (ala 1911) to carry "hot." Coupled with an Alien Gear IWB that I (skillfully) trimmed to accept the Swamp Fox Liberty/ w shield. I have tried other holsters (a drawer full of them), and Alien Gear has lasted the longest.

For years and years my favorite handgun was my 4 inch S&W model 19. But a K frame 357 is hardly an ideal carry gun, so I opted for a pre 1980 3 inch model 36. But I always wanted an automatic because of magazine capacity. I just never found the holy grail. I looked at the P365 Sig, the G19, the G26, the M&P. In 2019 I found what I believe to be my perfect carry gun. It's a tad smaller than the G19 and a tad larger than the 26, but it fits my had perfectly, it rides comfortably in a Galco IWB holster, it has a 13 round stash of 9mm, and it cost under $250. I've put close to a thousand rounds thru it with nary a hiccup. Go ahead and laugh you brand snobs, but it's a Taurus G2c.

Today, I carried A J frame in 38 special plus P.. Yesterday, I carried a Smith and Wesson M&P 4 inch 10 mm. All depends on what I'm doing, where I'm at and how I'm dressed. Just practice and be comfortable. Most of all enjoy your right to do so

I love what I think is the safest firearm an XDe. Has hammer, safety, etc. to me it is the best but no longer sold or made. I did buy both .45 and 9mm and my local dealer had another in stock I bought. I’d love you to do a review. Maybe you have. I bet you’d agree it has many safety features!

The best choice is the one you will put in your pocket when you get up and put by your bed side when you go to bed every day, all others are for specific purposes and situations. Mine for the last 10 years is a Tarus 380 TCP.

Yep. We've all been there, or perhaps "trapped" in that issue 🙂 And of course the manufacturers are skilled at coming out with the newest/best/most perfect self defense handgun. I have stayed for the most part with my G19,26,43,42 not because they are the "best most perfect concealed carry pistols", but they work, do the job, etc. and if I can't hit with them I'm not likely to hit with something else. I now live in Florida the land of cargo shorts and tee shirts any of the G 26-42 will work for me. Hawai'ian shirt and the G19 will work as well. I sometimes think do I need to replace the G42/43 with a higher capacity pistol. Then I realize I am 79 and thus far the capacity I've needed is Zero! And I get over it 🙂

In the wintertime I carry 2 642's. 1 in each zippered pocket of my coat. My 642's are no dash they are smaller than today's 642's because they were made on the standard J frame (1990-1993) In 1996 S&W went to the J magnum frame Which is a little bigger. I also always carry my beretta 950bs stainless steel in 25 auto in my pants pocket. I have carried a Beretta 25 since 1980. In the summer S&W 40 compact 15+1 with xgrip IWB holster. I have a Glock 19,22,23 and 26 and about 30 other handguns. If I could recommend just one gun to someone starting out today it would be the S&W 43c 8 shot 22lr revolver, (Hickock45 did an excellent review of it as did many others) but it must be loaded with federal punch 22lr ammo. And always remember, Laws don't stop crime. Lead stops crime.

I find the Taurus G3C is the best size/height for my frame with a Crossbreed SuperTuck holster (for almost all my carries) and offers decent capacity. The Ruger LCP Max is extremely easy to conceal in pocket or wasteband and decent capacity as well. However i do struggle with accuracy beyond 5 meters and it's certainly not an enjoyable gun to fire at the range. My preferred carry, when weather and clothing allows is the Canik TP9 Elite SC. Roughly the same size as Glock 19 but the overall height of both makes it harder for me personally to conceal; moreso with the optic. With those, I usually have to change from 4 o'clock to appendix; adding a wedge and claw. Occasionally ive been able to conceal something as large as the Walther PDP with 5" barrel and red dot but those days are few and far between. I'm still on the hunt for something better than the Taurus with a 5" height and at least 12 round capacity. The heat and humidity of Florida can really limit options.

I pocket carry a ruger lcr shrouded hammer chambered in .38 special. Can't defend myself for very long (5 shots) with a speed strip. But I figure God forbid I ever have an encounter, most are up close and personal with 3 or less shots fired. What I like about this setup is how easy the carry is. You hardly know it's there.

I chose two carry pistols, one is a Charter Arms Pitbull, 45 acp, light but a great little shooter, it's my daily. For special occasions, I have my Colt Defender, in a shoulder holster, conceals perfectly, hits what I aim at, and is slightly heavier than the other one. I also picked up a Glock 48 9mm, will swap that out soon for the 43x, but I don't carry it much as it sits on a magnet next to my chair. I'm older, and I answer the door with it in my hand. My neighbors think I'm a touch paranoid, I like to think I'm prepared for trouble, which has dogged my heels for 50+ years.

Most of the time in the summer and spring I carry a Glock 42 in 380 acp in my cargo pants pocket with the pocket holster. I still prefer my Glock 27 in 40 Smith and Wesson for the stopping power when carried with an in the waist holster. It gets down to what I can carry concealed.

I've been using a Kel-tec P3AT with an extended 9 round mag and another in the chamber for my EDC. I'm pretty accurate with it at 7 yard which is what I usually train at. As long as well maintained I've found it to be pretty reliable as well. But it is a rather painful gun to train with so I have been on the lookout for something better. I'd really like to get an original M&P Bodyguard but haven't been able to find one so have been considering an LCP Max in 380 as a possible alternative.

They got me with the Hellcat. Wanted something easier than my XDM to carry, picked it up, about a month later I finally got to the range and found the grip was too slippery and I couldn’t hold on to it. Easy to conceal, but couldn’t shoot it due to the poor grip texture and size. Sold it to a buddy and picked up a P365. Just gotta keep it oiled to keep from rusting 🤷🏻‍♂️

O-H-I-O Porters🇺🇸 Good video, even though it seemed to be cut off at the end. Such good food for thought! I am so thankful that my dad had & liked guns while I was growing up. He taught me a good deal, our cop friends taught me & a brother taught me as well. My 1st gun was a 32 revolver that I got from my dad, which had been a former police officer’s gun. It was great to shoot, but not too good of a concealer. I believe that if a gun feels good in my hand then it will be fun & easy to shoot. Most of my friends have that same belief. I’ve handled many guns & usually like to grasp them for about 5 mins to get a true feeling of it. That has determined most of my purchases over the years, primarily. Capacity is important, but not my primary concern, as I believe that you either have extra ammo or a backup gun as well. The BEST defense is to not have to ever pull my weapon & try to avoid a conflict, but it seems that there are people that will always push to the extreme, so it’s best to have a gun verses a knife. Never take a knife to a gun fight, as they say. I’ve been shot at…and that sticks with ya! I don’t care as much what I have as long as it’s RELIABLE. That’s my Hillbilly way. Thanks for the info. Blessings my friend! 🥰🤩✌️

I am probably going to have to have two carry guns. One for my everyday, self-defense, and another for my church security. Where I sit, operating the sound and video systems in my church, I am 17-18 yards away from the musician's platform. For that purpose, I am using a S&W M&P9 M2.0 Compact, 9mm with 4" barrel and a green dot, holographic sight. That, I can hide under a suit jacket, with a visible bulge. I am a small person, just 5ft 1in tall and 130lbs. Impossible to carry a gun of any size inside my waistband. Considering getting a compact .380 for everyday self-defense carry. It would be more comfortable and less visible under a shirt.

PM9 for 15 years. No failures, ever. Never drawn but hand on the grip a couple of times. Recently purchased a Shield plus to increase capacity. Kahr introduced their double stack at Shot Show 2024 but never marketed the gun. The Shield Plus is fine. Shoots well. No failures during break in but more difficult to conceal than the PM9. So, I still carry the PM9 but have a great back up. IN colder weather with bulkier clothes, the Shield may be on the belt. Either one will work but at 75 I’m hoping to never use either one. Pay attention and avoid conflict. Happy 2025.

I carried firearms for several different jobs throughout my working life, closest I ever came to drawing down on someone was when a guy tried to snatch a cash bag off the dolly of coin, and currency I was wheeling into a bank, but my 100 DB voice was enough to scare the poop out of him, and he ran away. The teller inside said everyone in the bank jumped when I yelled.

Mr. 45, I have the greatest respect for you and respectfully I would say telling folks "they might not even need ammo in the gun" is not a good idea in my opinion. One of the best shooting courses I ever went attended was with a sergeant on the Pensacola, Fl PD who had many years of experience on the force. Was many years ago but I will never forget he opened and closed the class each day with this one single lesson in self defense with a firearm. He said: "Never draw your firearm if you are not in a life threatening situation and you know you will have to use it....and never use it unless you plan to terminate the threat (no leg shots)" So for my 2 cents worth brandishing a firearm unless you to use it or if it's unloaded is a good way to be terminated. Again with all due respect and just 2 cents worth from someone not nearly as schooled as you in the use of firearms. Love you videos! Keep them coming!

You missed his point entirely. What he meant was, if you pull a gun the threat may stop and run away. You might not need to fire it. Guy pulls a knife you pull a gun and he runs.
