Lol tell them to aim their lights downward. Halogens, HID or LED regardless of the fact, people dont align their headlights correctly anymore nor bother making sure their aim right. I do love when people raise their trucks without proper aiming headlights downwards or when people purposely aim 1 of the beams upwards so they can see better while blinding others. JK aside, its about proper aiming beams, not the light itself.

The average human eye has maximum sensitivity to light in a band of wavelengths centered around 555nm, which corresponds to a blackbody radiator running at about 5300K. This is why I would choose the 5500K bulb for maximum visibility. The hotter color temperature bulbs will emit light at shorter(blue shifted) wavelengths and will scatter more in fog, rain, snow and smoke.

@tomtalker20005 жыл бұрын
I found this video VERY useful. As i'm in the process of updating my current OEM bulbs in my 2015 Lincoln MKC. I believe the stock OEM bulbs are Osram Xenarc 66340HBI D3S 4650K HID. And considering my vehicle only has 29k miles on it. It's hard for me too understand how faded these OEM bulbs have become. My high beams look like my low beams it's pretty ridiculous folks...!!! I'm not sure if 5yrs from 2015-2019 is the "average lifespan" of an HID bulb or not...? But their getting replaced with Dama Kanji Ultimate Vision Gen 2 5000K HID bulbs. Initially i was going too replace them with Philips new 4800K Gen 2 bulbs or the Osram Nightbreakers but those two bulbs are just WAY out of my budget. And i saw comparison test between the Dama's i'm considering and the Philips 4800K Gen 2 and they were VERY similar. Except for the Dama's cheaper cost. I can get a pair of these Dama's over at hidconcept.com for a little over $100 bucks with free shipping that's a steal too me...!!! And hopefully they'll last and be A LOT brighter when i'm driving at night. Because i prefer a nice bright white light then something that is "bluish" in color. Just seeing those bulbs as i'm driving past them look awful too me. And of course as this video explained the higher Kelvin rating you go the more "bluish to even purple" the light becomes. And then your sacrificing lumens and i can't imagine anyone wanting too do that especially driving at night and needing all the light you can get. Plus, those "bluish" hues are HORRIBLE in inclement weather especially rain and wet roads. Trust me folks i've done my research.

Would be helpful to show one of the CIE diagrams to describe the differences. Stick to using lumens (or total luminous flux) instead of luminosity, I've only seen that used in astronomy. Also, luminous flux accounts for the eyes sensitivity, so 3000 lumens is the same perceived light regardless of color temp.

Is there any data on how kelvin rating effects your vision over long periods? I do remember reading somewhere that warmer light (like a 4500k) is easier on the human eye when driving long hours at night, where whiter light (6500k) can strain the eye and can make it hard to focus during extended night driving.
@RetrofitSource6 жыл бұрын
Generally, we would agree with you that the warmer kelvin ratings are easier on the eyes. for pure visibility, we recommend 4500K or 5500K, whereas 6500K will sacrifice a little performance/practicality for aesthetic (if thats your thing)

55W HID's can produce quite a bit of heat and aren't always the best option for a fog light. I'd personally recommend running a good LED bulb like the Morimoto 2Stroke in those foglights instead. They'll be brigher than your factory lights and won't run the risk of melting.

My owner's manual says not to modify the headlights, no further explanation given on the matter though
@RetrofitSource4 жыл бұрын
Your battery and alternator won’t notice any difference with HID. 55w will technically reduce the life of your components but it’s very minor. I like the extra brightness personally!

They’re mainly just blue and the cut off line is skewed. I’m returning them and ordering Morimoto but I’m on the fence about going 35w 4500k or 55w 5500k. I want a bright light since my projectors serve both low and high beams, but I don’t really want any blue in the light source since they’re in projectors. Hopefully that all made some type of sense.

I read that Morimoto sources their bulbs from CNLight, is this accurate??
@RetrofitSource6 жыл бұрын
Many years ago...after 2011 (or so) they stopped using CNLight as a supplier
@cirealreviews17766 жыл бұрын
TheRetrofitSource Inc thanks for the info! Are Morimoto XB bulbs a little brighter than CNLight?

Will the higher watt ballast we used will fastern the projector's oxidation?
@RetrofitSource6 жыл бұрын
On some projectors yes, like a Mini H1, but on most full size projectors like a D2S or FX-R, no problem

maybe a strange question but on a 35 watt ballast, a 50 watt d3s xenon can be connected. Does this have consequences?
@RetrofitSource28 күн бұрын
The 35-watt ballast won’t supply the full power that a 50-watt bulb needs, meaning the bulb won’t reach its optimal brightness. As a result, you might see weaker light output, as the bulb won’t achieve the intensity it would with a compatible 50-watt ballast.

3000k!
@samindian49874 жыл бұрын
I think 6000K 55W will give the brightest HID luminosity with pure white light.
@RetrofitSource4 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct, and that is due to the fact that with the 55W ballast, you would see the drop in Kalvin from the 6000K to the 5000K color temperature, which would be the brightest option!

I have a 2013 kia optima any idea what i should get for color and brightness? I was thinking 20000LM blueish color! Or dhould i go brighter
@RetrofitSource6 жыл бұрын
You would want to go with the H7-B bulbs in the H7 Elite system, found here. We recommend the 5500K bulbs for a pure white light, with 35w ballasts. Will make you happy for sure. www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-systems-20/hid-systems-universal/h7-morimoto-elite.html

Thanks. I ordered 35w 6000k white with hint of blue but still bright.

What you didn't mention is that the lower colour temperatures allow you to see colour better. The CRI. Typically with higher lumens output and higher colour temp, you lose colour rendition. For me seeing colours properly is more pleasing than having slightly more lumens out front, I really don't like the pure white look at night.
@RetrofitSource6 жыл бұрын
Rob - thats a great point. Lower Kelvins like the 4500K typically allow you to see better, especially in all weather conditions, whereas the whiter light such as a 6000K will reflect off of particles in the air more

I’m after a set of D1S for my ‘15 7 series BMW. I’m ideally wanting the 4500k purpleish LED style look. I was considering the CBB’s, but unsure. Anyone recommend me something?
@RetrofitSource4 жыл бұрын
That 4500K is more of a warm color, where the 6500 is going to be blue, which is closer to that purple-ish color that you are going for. I would recommend going with the CBAs, as they will be the bluest bulb that we will have for your application. I have linked those for you here: www.theretrofitsource.com/d1s-osram-xenarc-66144-cba-B-66144CBA?quantity=1
