Hidan was not the weakest, he was simply the laziest. His immortality made him over confident, and vulnerable. He may have been weak compared to Itachi, or Pein, but by all means he was not weak. He deserved his position. He was careless, his tactics sloppy, he never really utilized his true abilities had he remained vigilant during his battles. Plus he is the only Akatsuki to not die lol.

Wrong Christianwo. They were part of the same organization, not the same team. Orochimaru was on a team with Sasori. Also in fact Hidan wasn't part of Akatsuki yet. I can prove this, Deidara had joined akatsuki and was partnered with Sasori when Orochimaru left. Also when Tobi joined, Hidan stated that he was the newest member until Tobi had joined. Proving that Orochimaru didn't even know Hidan. Later however with Orochimaru spying on the Akatsuki he found out about Hidan. Either way he wouldn't even be able to achieve immortality like Hidan.

Hidan is my favorite akatsuki member. I don't know why I think it's his personality: crazy, be a dick to anyone, doesn't care for anything (except jashin), he loves CQC, I love his scythe, etc... There's one thing that I have to say about characters: the more they talk the more development on personality he/she gets so you can know him/her.

unless a character is completely silent and his reactions and actions speak for him, then he would show more personality and development than any other character. A fun personality would be his extreme loath and disgust of ever learning the mind transmission jutsu or any communication jutsu as he feared he would either grow desperate of finally talking so he would bother others anywhere around the village at night and fear he would suck at talking or speaking or that he would grow insane of having to answer or talk in any way after an entire life of silence. The best thing i would love about him is that he knows ninjutsu in imbuing any nature into any weapon or turn anything into a weapon but focus on genjutsu to utilize his main arsenal of weapons and gadgets above the level of Tenten and being able to take on Sasori with such a mastery in imbuing his chakra into everything that almost everybody who have seen his full potential mistake it first for an s- rank jutsu that allows him to control anything with ease and imbue it in any way. When in reality he's just like Stein from Soul Eater who can adapt to a persons soul wave length instantly as he adapt to the items properties and can almost instantly master it and utilize it beyond it's original potential. Think his personality and appearance as extremely handsome while covered but that cute energetic personality of small cute sidekicks or cute characters like Tony Tony Chopper but with courage and as stated above, insane skills of adaptability to almost rival Kakashi's trademark of adapting to be a challenge to any opponent. geez i was just gonna say a silent guy speak more than talking but it turned into an entire character in seconds :/

ras3nkam3ham3ha 1997 he's not really a badass as much as a silent cute one with skills that one might think he traded with the devil for. Imagine a cute character with a smile like a bunny :3 with big puppy eyes who's skills makes him look like a devil. Being able to turn into crows and when formed the feathers look like shining sharp blades while he can transform parts of his body to weapons like a scythe blade with the feathers around it at the base. Not exactly cute but it makes for some funny confused opinion if he's cute or secretly a creepy sadist.

HIDAN IS NOT WEAK! HE IS ACTUALLY REALLY STRONG. Hidan may not have any hugely destructive abilities, but his fighting style is the most robust in the Akatsuki. Firstly a common misconception on Hidan is that his body despite being immortal functions normally. It doesn't, it also means he is invulnerable to ALL kind of attacks and damage with the exception of serving. That immediately means that the majority of ninja are unable to beat him, regardless of how strong they are. Secondly, if your method of serving revolves around taijutsu then you screwed given that Hidan is a master at taijutsu. Even in a rare case that you are actually better at taijutsu than him, you are still probably going to loose given that while you need to try and cut his head off, all he needs is a scratch. Hell look what happened with Asuma, someone who was suppose to be a expert in hand to hand fighting. If Shika hadn't been there that fight would have been over in few minutes. So in conclusion unless you have all the following: a) Extremely skilled ninja b) Long ranged fighter c) A Jutsu that focuses around dismemberment You are unlikely to defeat Hidan in a 1V1 situation.

He was a ninja from the Yugakure (Hidden Steam Village) and his village went from being a shinobi village to a more peaceful village so he slaughtered them all. He's not the only Akatsuki without a background that's explicitly talked about in the anime. Kakazu and Deidara also have their background stories not put in. But you can read them. Nothing really that interesting though.
