I really enjoy your London history shows and I can't wait to start exploring hidden London again... My family's descendants were silk merchants who fled the Huguenot prosecutions in Lyon in France and set up home and their same business in London.

Hi Phil, hope you don't mind me replying to your post. I too have ancestral links to Spitalfields and Lyon, and we also share the same surname! Just intrigued to know if we have a family connection? Kind regards, Jason

@@LookUpLondon I hope so, as this is an interesting way to remember the history of the borough and the city itself. Is there a reason why the other are no longer at their initial place? I am curious what stories they had?

Such a great video, thank you! I just love this area and the hidden secrets like the Victorian fresh milk advert on the corner of 50 Artillery Lane (there’s a photo of the advert when it was freshly painted in National Archives along with an amazing stained glass lamp a few doors down
@LookUpLondon3 жыл бұрын
Yes I love that one, you probably know already as you seem a fellow London history nerd like me (woop!) but there's also a broad arrow underneath it because it was the board of ordinance land (nice link with the Tower video) and hence Artillery Passage/Lane and Gun Street. I'll look up that National Archives picture, thank you!
@jasonpayneuk3 жыл бұрын
Lol just to add to my London history nerd cred, I volunteered for the Tower of London and did a report for them on the old Tower Liberties which is how I came across the photographs. I think the reference was WO94/89 - can’t wait for your next video!

Amazing. I have learnt a lot from your videos. What with the great fire and the war I (wrongly assumed) that a lot of the history would have been lost. Seeing these videos makes you realise how much there is still there if you know where to look. Thank you.
