HIDDEN HISTORY Women in industry St Ives.

Janet Axten Heritage Manager of the St Ives Archives explains how important the women in St Ives were from 1929 to 1977 when they worked in the textile industries and supported the local economy. The women also helped in the war effort making camoflage nets and string vests for the troops.

REDCLIFFE BRISTOL I made the film and I do not live in St Ives .It was a really lovely project to work on and it was wonderfull to see everyone who came to the workshops.

In 1951 I made four complete nets in St. Ives for tanks in Korea. I was 10 and handed over the 10/- (50p) I got for each net to mother. I gave up net making when no pocket money came back!
