I loved the video plus everything you said about the book and the trees . 30 years ago I took my first master sculpting class. We were told after you finish this class. You will never look at the world the same. You’ll notice things that you never did before. It is very true every day the world is amazing!

i really love the talking you do in your videos, not just about the art you're making (sure i love your creation too) but you give interesting facts too! i love todays talk about how plants communicate, and now i'm so excited to read it. i've always believed that plants do communicate, and its cant of sad and shocking that human-grown plants do not, i think its like what you said that they grow up depending on humans to care for them and provide everything for them so the never sense danger or competition the may require them to communicate.

NorahIK I can actually see these sort of things psychically, and plants planted by man do have emotions from my experience, and do care for other plants and share things between eachother. I don't know why this author is saying so. I am curious to read the info to see his basis for this. I do think plants like a potted plant can be very limitted in the area around them to what they are aware of, but I think that is due to being potted and separated. It is a little sad to me to be hearing people passing on the info that man planted plants are less feeling and communicative. I find it is absolutely false.

I wonder if the communication in man made forest could be effected by them not necessarily being "family". In a natural forest, the plants pollenate and disperse themselves so all the trees are connected by a familial link. It would be like communicating with an extension of yourself. However, in certain man made forest the seeds/trees can be from anywhere. They may be the same species, but they are essentially strangers to each other. Out there idea, but it would be interesting if plants could also recognize a sharing of genes.

I always love your videos, you are such a good artist. I also enjoy learning from you, what you've said about trees is fascinating. I had heard a bit before but learnt a lot more today. Like you, I have thought long and hard about our art using what is essentially plastic and I have no idea how long it takes polymer clay to begin degrading. To that end I think most of us are not wasteful with polymer clay meaning we purchase less in the long-term. Thank you again, blessings

indeed, but one has to wonder also if the art we are doing should degrade or not. Right now, I want my artwork to last, maybe one day I'll change my mind on that account and in that particular case, will switch materials.

Maybe for the plastic-free July you should try out paper mache clay. It is really simple to make, and you can sand it and carve into it and use dremel tools on it once it's dry.

This is such a beautiful piece. I really enjoyed listening to you talking about trees too. It actually makes me feel really sad that "homegrown" plants cannot "communicate" with one another. Im not sure why that affects me so, but its really quite upsetting. All the more reason to keep on talking to them lol

oh that is so beautiful! You know, it reminds me of the landcapes in Guild Wars 2, in the Sylvari area - in case you're not familiar, those are plant people. I keep saying that one of these days I will sculpt a Sylvari. Here's a photo so you can see why it reminded me of that www.licente-jocuri.ro/image/cache/data/img-jocuri/gw2/Sylvari_zones_3-1920x1080.jpg

Thank you for this delightfully fun and interesting video! I am ordering a copy of that book now and also another of his books. They sound really interesting and insightful! I do have a quick question (well two). What was the tape you were using, is it oven safe? And Did you bake your sculpt before painting it? (silly question, but I wanted to check!) Thanks again! looking forward to watching more!

*Hanem Alhamdan* Polymer clay needs to be baked by oven, to know what temperature you should bake it at should be written somewhere on your packaging of your polymer clay.

I am sensitive in picking up things with plants, and can visually or mentally see their relationships amongst eachother, their emotions, and how they share things together, even plants that have been mass produced for purchase in stores. That book sounds neat, I will have to look into it. I am curious how this author came to all of this information on how they share and react and such. By the way, have you ever tried communicating with plants or trees? You seem like someone that could if you opened yourself up to do so, with the love you have for them.

I kind of get the feeling that you think trees can physically feel pain like animals. You shouldn't expect them to feel pain if they don't have any other animal like senses. Look at pruning for example, pruning is alot like working out to build muscle because when you work out there are micro damages to the muscle that heal bigger and stronger. With pruning, you remove dying/diseased parts that can cause harm to the plant and dead heading to stop the plant from focusing too much resources and energy into reproduction. Plants and trees especially, are very resilient, one of my pecan trees got hit by lightning and half the tree was decapitated from the trunk, that tree is doing perfectly fine to this day. You mustn't be so sensitive for plants...
@paperdollmom3611
@paperdollmom3611 7 жыл бұрын
The Mad Hatter Just because a tree or plant is hardy and resilient, doesn't mean it is unfeeling. That logic makes no sense. Look at humans for instance. There are plenty of people who are very resilient in life that experience terrible tragedy, even physically, and remain strong and healthy. You wouldn't look at them and say they didn't experience pain even if you've never heard them say it.
