Hey it's me Quint from the video. I made some bad sequences I agree, both games were winnable for sure. Some insights into my thought process/self reflection. -- The first game (second in the video): The HP grass with Tar was a really bad play, I saw that moltres was my wincon and I needed some chip on pert to win after I boomed the bliss. The last turn I should have clicked WoW since that gives me a better more outs VS Pert (Non torrent Pump doesn't kill without crit, HP is in range for HP Grass). I was ahead but for some reason I felt that my opponent was somebody that would make some super flashy plays to try and get back into it and started overpredicting when it was never needed. That's a flaw in my game I need to work on -- The second game (first in the video): Essentially trading the metagross for blaziken was unnecessary when I have gyara in the back, could have gotten way more mileage out of it during during the rest of the game. As mentioned in the video the gyara should have just attacked instead of switched VS pert, would have given me the same outcome and more. -- Been a while since I played ADV and then I am prone to those kinds of predictions you can see here. Main part of my game I need to work on. You live and learn! Thanks for the tournament, been a blast so far! Great commentary too from LRXC!

@@sythrus tss stands for toxic/spikes/sandstorm, which is a common stall archetype. one of the standard versions of this is "big 5 tss" with SkarmBliss, Ttar, Gengar and Swampert. But SkarmBliss can exist outside of tss as well.

I'm at a complete loss. Whats the thought process for clicking HP Grass there? Even if you hit Swampert or Blissey with Rock Slide its just damage for Moltres.

if he goes pert on ttar and kills it then moltres is forced in where you have free sac with skarm and into blissey which forces out gengar. Assuming gengar was somehow super walled by pert it is forced to boom or double. Still I woulda rock slide tho no human goes pert there

So the big advantage to running Fire Blast is you can still threaten swampert with HP grass if it comes in on a fire blast, whereas the special drop from overheat lets swampert in pretty freely. I do prefer overheat though

it depends on your IVs, due to this you can only run one type of hidden power showdown thankfully just automatically sets your IVs to the correct combination for any hidden power of your manual choosing worth noting that in Gen 3, types determine wether a move is physical or special, which is why there are a lot of physical attackers running hidden power which is not something you'd see in later generations

@@gtothee5723 In game, IVs (Individual Values) are basically genes and are generated by the game when you encounter the pokemon for the first time and give a boost to your stats, meaning usually you cannot change your hidden power type and some pokemon will just be generated stronger than others, however showdown is of course only a simulator so you can change your IVs to be whatever you want and pretend you caught pokemon with perfect IVs all the time EVs (effort values) are individual training stats, they work like currency in which you have 510 (effectively 508) points to spend into your stats to boost them however you'd like, up to 255 (252 if youre being optimal) in a single stat, so you can customize your pokemon to be stronger or bulkier than usual for example
