On a one-day trip to Khanakul in Hooghly District, we first visited the Raja Rammohan Roy Birthplace and Bastbati Tourist Center at Radhanagar village in search of temples. This tourist center is located very close to Kolkata. There are many ancient temples scattered around Khanakul in the state of West Bengal. Basically this Khanakula has become one of the seats of Vaishnava, Shakta and Shaivism. But much remains out of publicity. Basically, the coexistence of multiple temples in two places shows how strong the soil of Khanakula was in devotion at one time! On one side of Chaitanyadeva's Charanduli Dhanya Khanakula, Radhavallabha, Radhakanta, Gopinatha Jiu, Navaratna Temple; On the other hand one can see the harmonious coexistence of Ghanteshwar Shiva Temple, Annapurna Temple, Vishalakshmi Temple, Ratnavali Temple and Radha Govinda Temple. Radhavallabh temple is said to be the largest temple in Hooghly district. Ghanteshwar Shiva Gajan has received national level festival recognition here. The Shiva who is worshiped in Kedarnath, Badrinath, 108 Shiva temples as Shiva, Mahadeva, Tarakanath, Bholebaba, Tarakeshwar is worshiped here as Ghanteswara. Ratnavali Satipeeth is mentioned as one of the one hundred and one Peethas of Sati. That is, whoever is worshiped as Kali in Kalighat, Ma Dakshineshwari in Dakshineshwar, Kamaksha in Guwahati or Tara as Tara, is worshiped here as Ma Ratnavali. There is no accommodation here. If you come from Kolkata, you can spend the day at Arambagh or Tarkeshwar, 25 km away. If you are in Arambagh, you can visit Kamarpukur, Jayarambati, Garh Mandaran on the next day.
🚘 how to go?
If you come from Kolkata, you can take a train to Tarkeswar, from there take a bus to Gargerghat and get off at Radhanagar bus stand. If coming from Kharagpur or Bishnupur, come to Arambagh, from there board a bus bound for Gargerghat and get down at Radhanagar bus stand. Then, You can go by renting a Toto car.
