Disney's Hollywood Studios opened in 1989, and was originally named the Disney-MGM Studios. Originally an entire land devoted to Roger Rabbit was planned to be added to the park, but the land was never built. Many props and homages to the rabbit can still be seen in the park to this day, including the original stunt car for Benny the Cab. We're taking a look at the history of Roger in the park, what types of rides were originally planned, and how they shot the Benny the Cab scenes for the film.

One thing I wonder is how did Bob manage to put on the Brooklyn accent so well? I couldn't even tell he was from England because it sounded so natural.

1:33 a couple of years ago, I actually sat down in that car and had my picture taken. One of my favorite vehicles from the Roger rabbit movie.

What a fantastic video! Very well produced. Thank you so much for taking me down memory lane and helping me enjoy Disney's Hollywood Studios even more, I'll be keeping an eye out for Rodger Rabbit next time I visit.

That's awesome. I actually freaked out when I saw the animators drawing at their desks because I own one of those! Crazy how the car and other things are hidden in plain site!

I worked there back in 1989. Remember all of this well. I remember Eisner coming in one day and telling them to get rid of the Roger Rabbit stuff. Next day, gone.

I was so excited to see Benny on my last trip! I got to take my friend (who has loved Roger Rabbit since she was a kid) to see the prop and she was so, so happy. I was so disappointed that they took out the paddy wagon, though. The Toon Patrol was always my favorite part of the film. As for a suggestion, there's some cool Rocketeer props over at Peevy's on Echo Lake!

That’s so great! I love showing friends too. Wish more of the RR props were still around. I’ll check out the Rocketeer stuff for sure, thanks!

Wow, I'm surprised you have so few views. It's stuff like this that the Disney crazy people love to learn about. As a nutjob myself, I didn't know that the little cart there was actually -the- car.

This was very interesting and informative. I plan to do DHS more in depth than I have in a while on my next trip. You have given me things to look for. I was there the first year DHS (MGM) opened and loved seeing your pics and videos from then. We did not take many pics so this was a real treat. Thank you!!

I remember bits and pieces of the warehouse because I feel like as a kid just saw that stuff in passing. It's one of the things I wish I could have explored around more as I love Who Framed Roger Rabbit (other thing I wish I got to experience more than I can remember was Figment's Coloring Book in the old ImageWorks). Now that I know there were thoughts to have a Roger Rabbit and ToonTown land in MGM, really sad it didn't happen. I would love that but feel like it's sadly too old to bring back. I hate that The Great Movie Ride is gone now but since it is and we know what'll go there, I wish that ride was more focused on Roger Rabbit and ToonTown than the version of Mickey they're putting there.

That is very interesting. I went to Hollywood Studios a long time ago back when it was still MGM...I think 96 or 97 was when I went. Hardly remember it, but one thing I do remember vividly was being on the path close to Tower of Terror and hearing people screaming like you wouldn't believe. Dad even tried talking me into riding Tower of Terror, I was so little I highly doubt they'd let me ride it if I agreed to. I had quite the fit over not wanting to ride it, just the name of the ride scared me. Now, if I ever go back to Hollywood Studios I'd still probably not ride TOT, I due to hating the feeling I feel on drop towers.

I remember all of this when I was a kid. Too cool. That was my favorite movie growing up, glad I wasn't the only one. I remember a playground with ants too, I think from honey I shrunk the kids.

I'm going in a few months with my sisters, though it sounds like even the backlot props that were on the tour are gone. I know they had one of the red car trolleys, a few of Eddie's blue sedans, the steamroller, and the dipmobile on the backlot tour, but there's been no word what happened to them. I'm sadly of the mind that the studio just sold them to be junked or scrapped. :(

It's not Doc. He was based on a real 1951 Hudson Hornet. His racing name and number were based on the real car given that name and number.
