Sicily is an island that is constantly reinventing itself, and it wants people to forget about its mafia history in order to better appreciate its assets. Taking the train is the best way to see them and get a glimpse of the volcanic landscape, which includes Mount Etna and the Aeolian Islands.
From Mauritania to Sicily, from Mexico to the USA and Czech Republic, each episode takes us onboard an emblematic train, to meet those who live, eat and sleep and build projects there...
On the Rails also explores what surrounds this legendary means of transport: The villages, the breathtaking landscapes, the must-see tourist steps, the train stations, the countryside and the mountains crossed by the journalist.

I was glad to see you showed the ironwork lanterns of the Taormina train station (hanging from the ceiling) which were made by my great-grandfather Giovanni Scimone, who had a workshop in Taormina. The air and atmosphere in Taormina is truly magical.

@@sunstarpunk Scimone is a name of Jewish descent, but the community decided to forget about its origin at the end of the 19th century with the rise of anti-Semitism and fascism. It was nice to learn since I was brought up Jewish and only learned this later in life

Beautiful place and shows that perfectly !! One suggestion, keep the original voice and give a subtitle for that and english voice over after that. Otherwise pls decrease the voice ang give the transition, its very distracting. Prefer Original voice if possible 👍🏼

I wish it could’ve been with original voice! Still interesting video! I’d like to know which cities the trains go in Sicily and the ones they don’t have the train running? Planning my trip to Sicily this year, interesting in visiting both sides of the island, starting in Catania, Taormina, Syracuse, Agrigento, Noto, Ragusa, Trapani & Erica, Palermo, Monreale, Cefalu and fly back from Palermo to Rome, does anyone can give me some recommendations on how to travel to Sicily without a car! Thank you 🙏

Great video! And very helpful! Would be beneficial if next to the price you would have added the duration od the journey, just to give some perspective. 🤗 Also wondering if there are monthly train passes in Italy?

such a pity not to be able to hear the original voices, we love to hear italian. why no subtitles? i could not finish seeing this documentary.

Tbf they have overdubbed leaving the original voices in the background, so some of the original sounds and atmosphere is still there. The adr is hilarious and stereotypical, but it’s what we had growning up (esp with manga etc). Rather just subtitles but better than complete overdub with fake voices and stock video .

Mi sembra che l'audio originale sia in francese... non era meglio mantenere l'audio originale e poi attivare i sottotitoli..??
