I’m in a party now that has a cleric of risk, he flips a coin sometimes to decide what to do. Usually not what my cowardly bard wants to do.

I feel like your Folk Hero player was inspired by Dragon's Lair... LOL! I typically play "Chaotic Good" in the old school sense...and I love playing the Chaotic Stratagist... think, the Time-Hijinks in a Bill & Ted movie. Thats my chaos! :D LOL

Smart risk taking...it means being smart regarding taking risks. Analyzing options, consider possible consequences and how the risk relates to the ultimate goal of the game. Random and chaotic behavior is seldom smart, just risky...and potentially spoils the enjoyment of others. Cheers!

I'm pretty neurotic in real life, so I do hesitate and plan a lot. :-D I think planning paralysis is definitely something that can ruin the pace of a game. However, that doesn't mean that taking needless risks is always the best alternative; sometimes spur-of-the-moment risk-taking leads to PC death, or to other undesirable outcomes.

It's easier to take risks when death isn't the only consequence with weight. I like the different defeat states that fantasy age plays with. Similarly, in Fate, when things go really bad, you can just concede the scene and leave to lick your wounds. Much easier to play stories of high risk in those games then in death-oriented ones.

My brother and niece are over cautious players and yet they still have died with every campaign due to their choices and dice rolls. 😂 So many times I wished they'd take the riskier option. They might have survived or still died but would have been more exciting.
