He's truly a gem. You rarely have artists nowadays that say out loud what they think, so blatantly like he did, and be absolutely charming while doing so. I'm still sad that I discovered him so 'late', my teenage self would have loved him.
HIDE is the greatest guitarist in Japanese history. He is a legend. His solo work was so different from being in X Japan. You can tell he was much happier as a soloist and doing his thing. He was the show no matter what he was doing. Such a musical magician and obviously a heart throb to those women who saw him. The fact he liked Ace Frehley of Kiss, Jimmy Page of Zepplin, and came here in the 90's to get a better understanding of twin guitars just amplifies his stardom. He was willing to learn from the best because he wanted to be the best and he is ranked #1 by so many guitarist experts of the Japanese culture. Pata close 2nd. Sugizo also right there. R.I.P. Hide you are sorely missed
@Monika-bc3dq5 жыл бұрын
No one ever acknowledging him on any 'best guitarists" list is pure crime on music history (same goes for Yoshiki and his drumming skill - these two are god of guitar and demon of drums). I would also like to add Syu from Galneryus to your list - that dude has some mad guitar skill as well (not surprising, since he said he's hugely inspired by hide).
@lennefujimura Жыл бұрын
He'd probably want you to mention someone not generally known as well, someone whom he considered absolutely incredible: Yukihiro Fujimura ("The Legendary guitarist of Kansai"), more generally known as Chachamaru - for the last two decades Gackt-sama's main guitarist and musically speaking, his right hand. But, I've been made aware of him through hide himself, when he mentioned the somewhat obscure band GERARD and Yukihiro-sama specifically.

OMG! I went from a very sad video about his death and now this clip. I agree that it is so much easier to celebrate his wonderful inspiring life, rather than keep grieving for his passing. I know it hasn't been easy. He is such an inspirational musician. RIP hide. We'll never forget you!
@jellissa9 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. But the annyversary of his death it's always a bitter sweet one... everybody is sad, everybody watches his videos over and over and we can't help but to cry over and over and over again and to wish he was still alive and to wonder how big of a star he would be today or if his children will wear pink hair too. LOL And then, it doesn't matter how much we try to make ourselves feel better by saying "let's celebrate his life instead", we are still grieving his lost. We just don't like to admit it because we don't want to be the only one in the crowd with sad puppy eyes. On May 2nd I will let my emotions flow and cry my eyes out if I want to, then I will smile back at him and rejoice in the fact that he is probably making the angels dance with his music and God smile with his pink hair. LOL Yes, we'll never forget him! My respects to Hide-san.

5:19 His shoulder is in discomfort, in which Yoshiki claims his death was accidental as he was trying to alleviate the pain (from the guitar strap) with a towel tied to the doorknob but he reckons he fell asleep due to being intoxicated.

I just discovered hide not even a week ago. When he died, I was only 4 years old. Why do I feel so guilty for not knowing what happened or being there to help him? Sometimes my thoughts rabbit trail into thinking that I'd rather give up my life for his. I know it's the wrong way of looking at it, but it's an urge that's just there. hide, I just met you and I already miss you.

Its sad watching this now and make it more worse is find out that this interview held a day before his death. Omg.. if the time turnel is exist I'll definitely wana be back to that day and save him. But reality check he is gone now. I've been listening to XJapan 6 years now. And yea like any others fans out there, I MISS U SO MUCH HIDETO MATSUMOTO. R.i.P

I have no strong opinion on whether his death was accidental or intentional, and I think the constant focus on that question is missing the forest for the trees. One could argue his regular heavy drinking appeared to be a symptom of un-wellness. Some speculate it was the cause. Either way, he died due to attempting to alleviate his pain, either physical or mental, and the line between those two things is negligible. Though only one of them is unfairly stigmatized... Many are spreading myths about how suicidal people look/act by saying there's no way he could have those thoughts due to appearing at ease in certain moments. There are multiple examples of celebrities conducting 'happy' final appearances, even recently the Korean idols Sulli and Jonghyun, who both uploaded images of themselves smiling and laughing in the weeks leading up to their suicides. Not to mention the collectivist mindset of countries like Japan that encourages people to keep quiet about their problems in public and never 'rock the boat.' It is not unthinkable that hide had these thoughts. Instead of denying the possibility so easily, try thinking about why you even feel the need to do so. Would it make him a bad or foolish person if it were intentional? (the answer is no.) And what of a number of his fans, who killed themselves in the wake of his death? For them, at the very least, hide's death could've been used to have a national-level conversation in Japan about confronting prejudices surrounding mental illness, and then one positive thing would've come out of all this. Instead people would rather pretend depressed individuals are 100% miserable 100% of the time, thus continuing the situation that makes it so difficult for struggling people to seek help with their pain and resort to 'self-medicating', like hide's departed fans did. It is totally lacking in compassion and is a fucking insult to their memory and his.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Japanese and English are so different from each other it's a tough translate for anyone who isn't fluent in both. I didn't actually do the original translation on this, I re-translated it from a transcript so it made more sense and flowed like it should. I do know some Japanese but not enough to translate myself. If I did, there would be a lot of his interviews translated to English.
@Rainielovealways10 жыл бұрын
Well i appreciate you doing that without you even doing that us non japanese fans wouldn't have been able to know more about hide :) i guess even someone fluent in both languages would need to know how to translate and write it down in a video i don't even know how to do that, i learned hide had a diary but even thats gone now, thankfully he'll live on in the videos people like you upload which i'm thankful for :)

He had been drinking with his brother later on this day. Sometimes too much alcohol wasnt good with Hide, he would get into confrontations with his bandmates but always apologize afterwards. I believe he took his own life sadly, but it was under the influence of alcohol. Sucks. I still idolize him to this day. Very creative, very a head of his time, and influential. A damn shame, the music industry would've beem very different. I remember his Pink Spider song being used on a music channel in WA called The Box. RIP Hide.

yeah I speak french too, but I'm not fluent. On a conversational level, I'm ok but to work with French professionally, I would need to travel more to boost my vocabulary and my hearing skills (etc.) But to teach Spanish or French in the school setting, you really don't need much, and that's what I'm about to do, in the meantime. I'm really impressed with Yoshiki's English however, and from the way he speaks, I can tell he was an avid studier and good at foreign languages.

Completely agree. If for no other reason (and there are many), remember how hide viewed his fans. He cared far too much to do such a thing. It's Japan after all; he certainly knew some fans would try to follow him when he left. I blame alcohol and nothing--and no one--else.
