It seems this approach doesnt work with a file saved on the web such as a notepad in google drive or onedrive

What happen if we publish this pbix file to pbi service? Is it give an error cos the PQ steps are stored in locally?

You should use a network location, onedrive or sharepoint would be a good option. this text holding file is very small, and will not create any additional load on refreshes.

Dear friend, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I understand that if you share the ".pbix" file, the recipient will need access to your computer in order to execute the query to update the data. I also understand that if you host the ".txt" file in the cloud, you will need to grant access to the user. In this way, all they would need to do is download the ".txt" file and open it to have access to the complete query. What can be done to work around this situation?

This solution is to safeguard power query transformations, may be you authored some out of box m code which you don't want to share. but for the shake of DAX or model modification or Visualization modification, you need to share the PBIX file. In order to safeguard the M codes, you should not expect the recipient to refresh the file locally. They can do all the changes in datamodel , DAX and visualization, but cant refresh it locally, they should publish it back to the service.

Hi, I am wondering if you can give me help? I tried onedrive, sharepoint, C drive and P drive. They all don't work and have the following error message. Expression.Error: We can not convert a value of type Binary to type Text.
@PowerBIHelpline Жыл бұрын
In the video. we are using text.fromBinary . are you using that the same way? The overall idea is to access the text from the file inside the code.

Hi Thanks for the video I did exactly as the video the power bi and the txt file are in shared network I managed to refresh the power bi file but when i change a step in the txt file and try to refresh it from another computer which has the same level of permissions as mine it shows me an error message Invalid identifier Is there any solution for it

It depends upon the changes made in the file. may be the M code need to be modified in advance if such changes are expected.

Thanks for watching! Please make sure you are not missing any thing in the syntax. M Code is Case sensitive

If it is in excel, why not just copy paste the data only and break the links and delete the power queries
@PowerBIHelpline3 ай бұрын
That can be done for limited data in excel , because In power BI enter data, you can only copy paste upto 3000. Also the real question here is to hide your transformation steps which you don't want to show to any other and not the data source.
