@@Martin-bp4rm Intelligently defending himself??? For one its not a MMA fight when they had their MMA fight Royce kicked his ass. Two Royce was using his right hand to prevent the second hand from coming through to the other side of the neck. And three the choke wasn't on Royce's neck it to begin with.. it was on his more of face and the ref didn't even check if Royce was out or not he just went with word of the Yoshida.

@@Martin-bp4rm whether I live with it or not it was still a bad stoppage by ref. If the roles were reverse I would still be saying the same thing... I just would hope Royce's Ezekiel choke isn't as sloppy as Yoshida's. Also refs are human they make mistakes sonetimes and if they're Pride refs they're probably paid to make mistakes.

Do some action or the referee will think you're out: your arm limp. It's for the safety of the fighter either. You cannot blame the referee.

I wonder what might have happened if the ref had not stopped the fight, perhaps Royce might have eventually been choked out and not wake up.
@DemuDesu
@DemuDesu Жыл бұрын
Yeah. Lawler vs Askren got stopped for the exactly same reason. Prolonged chokes can literally damage the brain and ultimate kill you, Royce should have done something, anything to show he wasn't out (if he was actually awake, his left hand looks kinda going limp to me).

@@DemuDesugracies always do that you can confirm just checking their history of sakuraba fights or rufino dos santos. Yoshida should have kept going regardless of what happens to royce. He is a good guy and didnt want to hurt him, but if thats how they play they have it coming

Early stoppage, but had that choke stayed on for 5 seconds more he'd have been out. When you're lying under an Olympic Judoka, and he's got you in a choke, and you're clearly not doing anything to defend yourself, what do you think the ref is going to do? This, or better to have let it go on and risk someone getting bran damage had they been in the choke?

Yeah, if you are in choke and stop resisting don't blame the judge for calling the fight. He could have waved with his feet or hands to make clear he is fine instead of laying passive. Even if the choke was incorrect so would not resisting make it just a matter of time until the opponents corrects that.

refs in MMA usually see if they're responsive and move their hand if they can't see their face to see if they're unconscious or not. Fact is that Royce wasn't out yet. Do I think he would've been choked out anyway? yeah. But, it's a simple fact that the ref stopped it too early as well. I think Yoshida would've won anyway, but it's too bad that the ref didn't do it correctly.

Sode guruma jime. Seems like a senseless thing to bring only half of judo (BJJ) back to try and beat all of…judo? I mean, essentially, Jiuitsu is all of jiujitsu (obviously), judo is the bits of jiujitsu that are considered safe for sport, and Brazilian jiujitsu is the bits of judo that people who don’t like getting thrown are comfortable with. The more you step away from jiujitsu, the more you seem to take away. In fact at 7:10 Gracie goes for what looks a gyaku-juji-jime? But Yoshida shuts it down right away.

That means 8 of them managed to get on that list without any Judo. Of these people, only 1 trained in Catch Wrestling - Randy Couture. This makes BJJ look so bad. And honestly this is pretty much the history of BJJ vs. Judo lol. A bigger olympic level judoka on top of Royce is not a good position to be in. I think if in the US, Judo was more popular and adapted to the US audience of adult practitioners that balances ground work with standing (for safety reasons), it would've been better. I would have preferred to do judo over BJJ just in general, even with modern judo's de-emphasizing ground work. But the options for judo outside of Japan just isn't that good, especially not good in the US. It's better in Europe, but obviously the best in Japan. And it's just a better martial art. No martial art that starts from the ground makes any sense. And this is coming from someone with 16 years of BJJ experience. I'm just in too deep at this point to change. If I could go back I'd definitely pursue judo instead. I'd feel a lot more confident with self defense seeing as how people walk around on their two feet, nobody crawls around on the ground. Every fight starts from the feet. I'd rather have an amazing osoto gari than a great guard. Oh well.

It's nice to see someone who isn't a BJJ cultist. I came to a similar conclusion as I did Jiujitsu first but now I spend a great deal of time on Judo and my confidence has gone up exponentially. Jiujitsu never increased my confidence because I knew I never wanted to be in those positions anywhere outside the dojo.

It was a legitimate loss. Royce was not going anywhere. The fight was done. I was surprised every time he complained, I was surprised he did not complain when Hughes beat him. Asian guys are what makes it exciting to watch these fights. You can tell the skill going on. Gracie only did boring well.

@reenamola2162 I agree he was outclassed but all the more reason for Yoshida to win fair and square. He didn't need a bullshit call to win and should have agreed to continue the fight. It's more insulting to him than Royce. Personally, I wouldn't have accepted that. Then again, apparently Royce employed some sort of skunk strategy, so perhaps he did deserve this. 🤔 The rematch was an even bigger disgrace. For all his ego and pride, Royce is underhanded as fuck.
