Hidehisa Nishimura - Kendo Highlights

Hidehisa Nishimura is a 3 time all Japan Kendo Champion and has previously placed in top 3 at the 16th World Kendo Championships. He is one of the most highly respected Kendoka in the world and is considered to be a large figure in the newer generation of high level Kendo.

Would love to see someone do Lawrence Kenshin style breakdowns of these matches. As an outsider to Kendo, it’s difficult to fully understand the nuisances of what’s actually happening and subsequently appreciate the skill level of the Kendoka. Slowing the footage down helps, but it would definitely be interesting to get a more detailed rundown of the techniques being used

Nuki Kote and Hiki Kote (gonna have to search these up for more info cause I would be here forever trying to explain the two) are the main two waza(techniques) Nishimura is known for and these waza are the ones shown in this video for the most part. His control and speed of the shinai for these Kote(wrist) strikes are amazing as it is a notoriously hard target to hit accurately especially in a stressful situation such as a shiai(match).
