I'm the one who made the video been going into that train tunnel since I was ten years old it's 3/4 of a mile long and elevation is 5000 feet. When I was a kid in the 60's and 70's it took soooooo many engines to get the train up that high you could hear the trains coming for sometimes an hour when they built the railroad they had to use a lot of land and wrap the train through the woods to get it to go from 2000 feet to 5000 ft. I have been in that tunnel at least 200 times for trains and anytime I took someone there they went in to experience the unreal fun and scare it brings. Brings a smile and great memories to me seeing the comments from so many people. My wife and I did one with the Amtrack train. but nothing beats a slow moving Freight Train. When a train in the 60's and 70's came out of that tunnel the amount of smoke that came out was like Mt St Helens erupting. cant believe I did not have cancer by age 20 we would put our shirts over our mouths thinking that was good enough. All my family and friends the many times we have been in nothing bad has happened. In my lifetime no train has derailed in that tunnel. Thanks All for the great comments.

There are alcoves in most train tunnels just in case anyone gets caught in there. Plus most of the time the engineers are so focused on the tracks ahead they aren’t looking at the alcoves.
@Oneill549114 жыл бұрын
@PlasticViolenceLego I think about a foot and a half. Plus there's a couple feet between the wall and the train. So between you and the train, there is about a 3 1/2 to 4 ft gap. When I was hiking down the tracks on another trip before this one, I ran into a tunnel with my uncle (the other guy in this video) as a freight train was coming down the hill. When we ran in, we discovered there were no cubbyholes with no time to get back out. We had to lay down against the wall with 2 ft to spare.

I remember I was at a friends house and my little sister was playing on train tracks, investigating, like a little kid naturally would. I hear rumbling in the distance and get her off the tracks, a long ass train comes ROLLING down the tracks, that train was so long it took like at least 5 minutes to pass. She probably would've gotten off anyway when a death machine comes rolling towards her, because it's not a tunnel or enclosed space, but that was her first time seeing a train, up close and personal.
@Oneill549114 жыл бұрын
@PlasticViolenceLego Yeah it's probably pushing 115 - 120 db in the tunnel. Family members in the past have been able to stand up flat against a train tunnel wall and survive, so we knew we wern't in life threatening danger. The tunnel we were in had a bit of a cuve to it, so we figured that we might not be seen if we lay down on the inside of the curve. The nose of the train engine sticks out far in front of the cabin window, so the engineers can only see track about 50 ft in front of them.
@SuperVinceybaby6 жыл бұрын
Oneill5491 of course you weren't in danger. What you need to do is walk down the tunnel and the look for cover when the train is up close. That's living on the edge.

When I see people doing this, but relying on the tiny LED light built in to the camera it's just dumb. Good on you for having the sense to use a good strong torch to see well. When dust or smoke kicks up, visibility can become so short and in a dark place, it's very disorienting. At least a well focused torch beam will show you where a wall is, and show you where you're walking, or even to see the alcoves to hide in.
