“Continuation and control ” is no longer a part of the takedown rule in college. It used to be. Today’s rule is based upon the “taken down” wrestler utilizing any part of their body other than their feet to remain upright. In a high school match this was not a take down. In a college match in 2019 it is an easily seen 2 points. They are rewarding the take down way too soon today. But, all tournament long that was two, excerpt for the Nolf match

0:52 Take Down for Hidlay. Opponent taken down to the mat, one hand and a knee, in controlling him with an arm. Then a takedown is scored when one wrestler, Hidlady, gains control over the other, causing the opponent's, Nolf, supporting points (the area or areas in which most of the body weight is placed) to be the knees, thighs, buttocks, or hands.

Was asking myself why they put four seconds back onto the clock if the call was continuation. Instead, something might have gone down at the four second mark. If you look at what happened at that point, Nolf's knee was in a pretty dangerous position. Maybe this has to do with why they took away the takedown and then put back the four seconds...? thad anderson the “danger zone” rule calls for a count of three for a takedown to be rewarded. So based upon what you said if Yianni held him in that danger zone for 2 seconds he was one second short of scoring. Just basing my response off of what you said.
@BadWolfMMANashville5 жыл бұрын
thad anderson yeah they call it “danger zone” meaning you are exposing your back in a scramble and there is 3 seconds of fixation. Basically, neither wrestler really has control but you are in a position where swipes can be given if there was control. The rule was created to stop collegiate wrestlers from gaming exposing their backs in scrambles.

This was called as 2 pts during the match. The slow mo angles utilized by the camera crew in replay seemed to only confirm that result. Every commentator, almosy all with significant wrestling experience mind you, also agreed that it was 2 points for a takedown. They all seemed pretty shocked when it was reversed. That wasn't the worst call though because that was at the start of the match. Anything could have happened during the match after that. The worst call was at the end of the match when Hidlay got robbed of a match winning takedown at thr edge of the circle. He clearly had control and 3 points of contact down for Nolf. Nolf had a whizzer, but the arm had to get to his hips before the whizzer could be in. Hidlay was all the way behind Nolfs hips. It was another 2. To make matters worse Hildays coaches threw the challenge flag in and the refs literally threw it back and said " we're not going to review that" even though they by rule are supposed to at least go through the review process no matter what once that challenge is thrown.
