Ironing. Yes. I actually made my own ironing board, from cedar wood. So when I iron, the heat of the iron makes a lovely cedar aroma. It's a very simple design for a table top; just three small pieces of wood under some cedar planks, for support, and then some soft fabric on top. It takes less space than a floor-standing ironing board, and smells so good. It can also be used as a small table, or a sofa for a cat, as my cat does. :) And you mentioned warm socks...I'd also recommend warm slippers. Super warm slippers. If you keep your feet warm, your whole body will feel warmer. Being from Canada, and having lived in an old Kyoto house, I have become pretty good at keeping warm in cold places. :) Cheers to you guys, and keeping cozy this winter! ❄

That's amazing you made your own ironing board! Even from cedar wood, that must be so nice to iron... and nice sofa for your cat, how luxury! So nice to hear from Canada, you must be so expert of cold place, we'll follow your advice. Actually we should receive our new super warm socks very soon...!!

@@hige_to_watashi ❣☺ Well, although it DOES get cold here, I am between Toronto and Ottawa, on Lake Ontario, so I am certainly not in the coldest part of Canada (same latitude as Hokkaido, though). But it's definitely time to start adding on the layers of clothing. Another weird thing I do to keep warm is cut off the feet from old socks, and wear the top part over my wrists. It really makes a difference and keeps the hands super warm without the need for gloves. Oh, and leg warmers made from the sleeves of old sweaters. Almost everyday in winter. Yes, I guess I have several keeping-warm tips. I very much dislike being cold. :) 🌞❄
I enjoy the end of each video where you share your conversations with Hige san.

I worked as a waiter for some years. I had to iron table cloths for the finedining part of the hotel I worked in. The workload was just a pause from everything, really. I really enjoyed ironing the tablecloths and I was always happy to do more. It was a sort of meditation. I love your videos, it's nice cozy content. Reminds me of growing up with my parents on the farm.
Those blankets are so perfectly your aesthetic!! And that sweet potato cheesecake made my mouth water and it's on my autumn desserts list!!

Another charming video! Thank you! Can you possibly share the recipe for your lovely sweet potato cake? It looked delicious. I think many people would love to try it!
Your sweet potato dessert looks delicious! I remember those cold days and nights while living in Yokosuka in the late 80’s. Our house had no heat so we had to use a kerosene heater 🥶. I like that Hige is so polite when speaking to you 😊.

Thank you! Honestly sweet potatoes dessert was so good that I had most of it by myself😂 No heat in winter time sounds so hard! Kerosene heater is nostalgia…!

Love your new blankets! Especially the big one with the bold colors. I don't have an iron at home. I use a steamer if I need to get the wrinkles out of anything. I find it's much easier, although you won't get crisp lines in your clothes, but most of my clothing is not very structured. Loved seeing you make the cake. The technique is similar to how we make Puerto Rican flan!
@hige_to_watashi2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! Yes Puerto Rican flan is what we call “pudding” in Japan! I love it so I made a sweet potatoes version of it🙌

This was the first thing i greater myself to this morning before heading off to work. I get so much inspiration and calmness when I watch what you two lovely people are up to. The new blankets from Slow Down Studio are great and I’m going to get one, too… (Eeeek, the price from California to 🇳🇴 is going to be EXPENSIVE‼️😁). One more thing before I go… I’m obsessed with your red spiral staircase and your white beanbag chairs‼️

Thank you for your sweet comment! We're glad you like our flat🍀 And hope you'll enjoy your Slowdown Studio blanket, it's worth for the price! (but yes i can guess it's gonna be expensive...!!!)
Ironing! What's that?? Haha, I'm joking of course but really, I don't even own an iron for our clothing. Because of the weather here and the space we have, we dry all our laundry on a line outside. To avoid creases, we hang certain things on clothes hangers on the line and make sure we put the dry things away as soon as possible so they're not laying around. That said, I do use an iron in my studio when I want to melt wax into paper or fabric when making art. Oh, I also have two Japanese vintage Takii flat irons that were heated over a fire and used to press kimono. They are beautiful almost sculptural things with wooden handles. I can't wait for our sweet potatoes to grow. We planted six plants of 2 different varieties this season. Your cheesecake looks delicious but I don't think I'll use the sweet potato that's purple on the inside to make it. That might look a bit strange, lol. Thank you again for such a lovely vlog as we are getting ready for Summer. (Your new blankets are amazing! I love the snake image)🙏

A colleague in her twenties, complimented on my shirt the other day. I thanked her and said it’s a pain to iron. She looked at me like she’d no clue what I was taking about. Well, It seems people don’t iron their clothes anymore or they just steam them.
In the comments I said I tried "figs" in my salad and I didn't like is that much, well I've figured out a way to make it work, I added some tahini and 1tsp of honey to my salad and it was delicious.....I'm now a huge fan of figs.....🙏🏽❤️

Bom dia, lindo vídeo. Vou tentar fazer o bolo, parece ser delicioso. Boa sorte. Obrigada por compartilhar!
I am lazy and don’t love to iron so for quick touch ups on my clothes, the flat iron I use for my hair, works great to get wrinkles out of hems, collars, and sleeves 😂
