In honor of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, learn about the Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel, or LCVP, better known as the Higgins Boat,” featured prominently in the Museum’s Global War Gallery in this episode of Curator’s Corner.
One of a handful linked to the D-Day landings in Normandy, the U.S. military used many of the over 23,000 Higgins Boats produced for amphibious operations in both theaters of conflict during World War II. The exhibit also interprets Soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division landing at Utah Beach as part of the second wave of attacks.
Museum Chief Curator Paul Morando explores this iconic object tied to D-Day and its place in the storied history of the Normandy landings.
The Curator's Corner Series explores the Museum's artifacts, conservation measures, and how exhibits are created.
