I have no idea whats "High Altitude Illness" until I experienced it last Sunday. First time hiking on a high elevation - I went to Mt. Baldy Summit (10k ft elevation) last Sunday. Before reaching the summit, I start having this massive headache (like a hangover) and wanted to throw up. My hiking pace went from normal to really slow like tip-toeing lol. Some hikers noticed and asked if I'm ok. Thank goodness I reached the summit. From there I ate granola bars and slept for 2 hours. Thinking sleeping would take out the headache but it gets a lil bit worse when I woke up. Despite the situations, I still managed to descend. Next time if I'm hiking on a high elevation, I should bring Tylenol as a backup. Thank you for this video now I know whats "High Altitude Illness" is all about! :D

No, you should not bring tylenol as that may (if it does work) mask the symptoms which will make you drop dead even faster because you will feel ok but your body will be dying even faster because you will be over exerting yourself. People die in colorado all the time from altitude, and that is 2000 feet lower than where you were. Next time, if you get a headache ESPECIALLY if you are doing anything physical, you should GO DOWN. Please educate yourself better on this issue and know that the mountain will always be there, but you only have one life.

@@missanna208802 Thank you for the information. I have a friend who's from Peru she drinks this tea called "Coca" tea. She said it helps the altitude sickness when she's visiting her hometown. I know it's illegal to bring it here in US. But what do you think about that natural remedy? Does it really help or it just masking the pain like tylenol?

Could this be related to problems at regular altitudes as well? I have the exact same symptoms when I was thousands of feet up, but I also have a hard time with cardio workouts at normal altitude.

@@kbanghart Have you ever been tested for a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO)?? It's a very common congenital condition where a hole between your right and left atrium (in your heart) that's supposed to close after birth remains open. About 25% of people have this condition but it goes undiagnosed most of the time. A PFO would make high altitude acclimation VERY difficult because over time it causes cyanotic right to left shunting of deoxygenated blood. Please be careful and avoid any food or chemicals that cause inflammation of your vessels! Stiffening of the pulmonary artery makes it worse so kiss those Skittles goodbye. This CAN be corrected with surgery so you could discuss this with your doctor 😎❤

@@deeeeeeeebs Great question! From the data I could find online it seems Coca Tea gets to the root cause of symptoms and fights inflammation while making it easier for your body to purify its blood and regulate muscular and nervous function. Plant medicine is amazing!! It's only illegal because Big Pharma owns Congress and wants to push its product Acetazolamide/Diamox for altitude sickness. But the pharmaceutical drug has many contraindications and side effects. "People should not take acetazolamide if they have: serious liver or kidney disease; lung, heart and hormone diseases; adrenal gland failure; allergies to any of the ingredients in acetazolamide or to sulfa drugs; or who have hyperchloremic acidosis (unusually high acidity of blood and tissue)." I'm in medical school to become a doctor and my dream is to run Clinical Trials with natural medicines such as Coca Tea at Everest Base Camp.

Youre wrong at 1:35. People die in colorado quite frequently from altitude sickness at those measely mile high altitudes and I got altitude sickness from driving to Vail from Salt Lake City in a day. I had a "hangover" for 3 days when i got there. Luckily my friend knew what was up and made me lay around for a few days.

I'm wondering if this is what I have, sounds like it. Many years ago, at a time when my age and general conditioning should not have mattered that much, I went skiing in CO with some friends, and they were all doing fine up around 9000 feet and lower, and as soon as I got off the lift, I literally couldn't move. I just stood there, in my skis and poles, trying to get enough air to exert myself. most frustrating day ever. Back at sea level I'm mostly normal of course, but when I exert myself a lot at normal altitudes, I seem to have a really hard time. It happened to me at an even younger age, up around 7,000 ft while hiking.

If you got sick for days from a 4k elevation change over a day you need to make lifestyle changes.

what if you transfer to work at high altitude 2000 m is it dangerous to your body or it can acclimate?
@cindys9491
@cindys9491 5 жыл бұрын
6000 or 7000 feet (2000m) shouldn't usually be too bad from what I've heard. Check with a doctor if there's previous medical conditions. It's initially harder to work out (shorter breath etc) at 2000m than at sea level but gets better w time.

@@cindys9491 I hope you are ok. Yes you can get altitude sickness and even die (especially if you are exerting yourself) at that altitude. Read about altitude sickness deaths in colorado. It happens all the time.

Yeah, if you get symptoms I would advise be super careful. Maybe you can try to acclimate slowly.

unfortunately symptoms are masked by the stress on the body, and people are too foggy to notice or accept that they are in danger. It would be nice to see more medical protocols implemented to mitigate unnecessary injuries or deaths at elevation. All tho, I think there should be more legal mechanisms in place well before medical.
