To be honest, a Malekith redemption to some degree *could* have worked, if written very well. You could involve Grombrindal, the fact the Dwarfs possess the original Phoenix Crown and such to have him eventually lead a suicidal final defence to buy as much time as possible alongside Snorri Whitebeard. Or, y'know, you could just do it very arbitrarily in a really badly written set of books that botch almost everything, and time those books to come out just before a couple of major games that become very popular that are in that setting you just destroyed... sigh.

I could buy Malekith being intended to be the next Phoenix King until the whole "murder Bel Shanaar" thing, and while it would have been difficult I could see a redemption arc working. Three major problems with how it was written in the End Times: 1. His redemption more or less came out of nowhere. We don't see him grow tired of the debauchery and evil of the Druchii and yearn to go back to the days before he was the Witch King, he's just kinda the good guy now. 2. If after thousands of years of war, slavery, rape and destruction Asuryan still thinks he's the rightful Phoenix King, he's either outright a horrible deity or he's an idiot. 3. there is no way ANY number of High Elves would welcome him as King, much less the like of Teclis or Imrik

A bit of context about the election of Bel-Shanaar over Malekith back when they first elected him. Malekith was certainly the favorite candidate to be chosen to become the next Phoenix King. He may have been rough among the edges, but he was considered young for an Elf and thus with time, he could have matured and become a great Phoenix King to defend Ulthuan from the forces of Chaos. HOWEVER, someone then arrived and announced that the children of the Everqueen and Aenarion were still alive. I personally don't believe that Aenarion married the FIRST-EVER Everqueen because according to the lore, there had always been an Everqueen before the Phoenix King was an actual thing. Nevertheless, according to that tradition, the Everqueen's daughter would become her successor, and with Malekith becoming the Phoenix King and thus required to marry the Everqueen in a ritual marriage, that meant that the Phoenix King and Everqueen would have been brother and sister. Now that was the final straw for many of the Princes and Princesses who had yet to vote because the prospect of incest was taboo to Elven Society. So they voted for Bel-Shanaar the Explorer as the safer option. And that enraged Malekith to no end. I say all of this as someone who hasn't watched the End Times series because I hate it and it's stupid.

Excellent comment. But you made an error. The primary cause was Malekith being too young and many were concerned about his mother. After becoming a hero, many wanted him to be the next Phoenix King but he listened to his mother and we know what happened. As for me, I disliked the End Times because Chaos won. But I wanted the elves to untie with Malekith as the leader. I just think it should have been done better.

Astarielle wasn't the first Everqueen, just the oldest recorded one (read - the first that GW bothered with in the lore). Before the Phoenix Kings, the Asur were already ruled by the Everqueens. The symbolic year-long marriage between the Phoenix Kings and the Everqueens came about from this, to prevent the Asur kingdoms fighting each other over which throne was the real one.

Astarielle did not become the Everqueen due to marrying Aenarion. Futhermore, she is only considered the 'first' Everqueen as she is the first recorded. Lastly, you left out Lileath and Morai-heg from the list of gods and goddesses.

You're right. In the same way the Lizardmen fought daemons of chaos for many years and battle in Lustria early in the lore of Warhammer Battle. At that time, and at the time of Aenarion, most of men existed only as tribes or cavemen without organization.

No. Chaos Warriors already existed back then. All mortal races can fall to Chaos, even Lizardmen, if you read Lizardmen army books it is mentioned that during his travels in The Realm of Chaos, Oxyotl, almost fallen to Chaos, tempted by it. Thought, most of The Warriors of Chaos come from tribes inhabiting Northen, arctic terrains, like Norscans, Warriors of Chaos come from all places across the globe, there Warriors from Empire, Bretonnia, Naggaronth and other places. For example, Dechala the Denied One, is Champion of Slannesh and Asur Princess who lived and fallen to Chaos during The Great Catastrophe. Also, Morkar The First Everchosen is said in some sources, to have lived already in this time period and was personally slain by Aenarion himself. So no, there were no Norscans but there were already Warriors of Chaos by virtue of Chaos existing back then.
