I just modded my Sterling Cutlass CT50 HSS with a Seymour Duncan TB-14 and two SSL-6's. Basically all bridge pickups. I'm really dig'n the fat warm tones I'm getn now from it. I didn't care for the twangy edge the factory pickups had. With the switching mods I've added to it, the middle position gives me neck and bridge, and the push pull tone pot coilsplits the humbucker. The out of phase tones are still there for chicken pick'n. Hard to beat an HSS S type for versatility.

Emg makes good stuff. On the subject of the 81. Don’t listen to all the random forum dummies that say stuff like “I don’t like active pickups” or “an 81 compresses the midrange too much”. This is all junk people repeat to sound informed. It’s BS. Try some 81s in a decent guitar and you will be won over. The battery lasts hundreds of hours.
@shirtpants42038 ай бұрын
Only complaint about the 81 is you can't tune it too low or its too bassy

Another great video Lamb. Rob from Cannibal sometimes uses a LP with a passive Charvel in the neck and an EMG 81 in the bridge. A circuit which I've heard people say is impossible - but he does it - according to a Florida based luthier that does his and Erik Rutan's guitars pre tour.

Another great vid🤘. I’ve been playing EMGs for a long time. Most of my guitars have them loaded in. My favorite is the 57/66 setup. Thought I do use 81/85s as well. I’ve even used the H4 and H4a passives and really like them. I read somewhere that Gary Holt Will sometimes use them as well said he likes the passive tone. Cant go wrong with any of the EMGs.

Sup Lammy... consider an Afterburner in that mix... when you roll off to that killer clean.. you roll on the afterburner and the volume comes back up with some extra pristine and still you are at real low vol... it will add another dimension to that roll off so you can be very light pick and low vol and pick up additional nuance and equal actual volume. Good for recording and performance in this scenario.
@LambChopper678 Жыл бұрын
Yeah wow, I’ve not thought about that. They make some of the coolest things to horrid your guitar 🤘🏻
@T0neXIII Жыл бұрын
@@LambChopper678 for sure... I never turn the AB variable above 1/2 way... which is 10db gain at that point... but to be able to "dig in" somewhat with the volume pot at 1.5 or 2 and some tone cut also... without blowing out your clean tone with gain / harmonic distortion (from Iron Fisting) and still have the actual volume there is great. Removes the need for a compressor in some cases. So you're just amping the volume... not turning up the volume.

Poeple say it the emg 81 makes all the guitars sound the same? Hmm myb because wood doesn't affect the tone at all? You could have pickups on a wooden stick with strings and the tone coming out of the speakers would be the same as some guitar body that's made out of the so called "tone-wood". Don't let manufacturers fool you with such statements about the "tone of the wood". Pickup is the one that's picking up the vibrations of the strings and sending it to the amp. Don't believe me? Search up on youtube does guitar wood make a difference in tone and look up some videos. Emg is an absolute monster of a pickup and it can make any guitar sound like a metal machine!
