"Your kind"? That guy is not much of a human being. I'm sorry you were subjected to that ugliness. On a more positive note, I really loved the sights of Ouray, the waterfall was beautiful. I always enjoy your videos, you are such an interesting narrator. Your voice is very pleasant and relaxing to listen to. May all your future adventures be happy and joyful!

I was so incensed I posted the following message on the KOA FB page along with a link to this video: "The owners of the KOA in Durango CO are racist idiots. " They responded: "Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Paul. We will work with the campground to address this."

I just read some other reviews of Durango Nth. It seems you are not the only one who had a strange interaction with the owners. Impressed by your taking the high road regarding their parting comments. I certainly won't be letting my shadow fall there and will counsel those I know to do the same. I just upvoted John Doe's comment left there after also watching your episode.

Gorgeous town of Ouray, Colorado! I have lived here in Colorado for 39 years…never made it to Ouray yet. They have a huge hot spring pool in town. Colorado has a lot of hot springs! Yes all those towns are touristy; however, Steamboat Springs, Colorado is my favorite small town. Lots of locals live there and it is the training mountain for the US Olympic ski team. They practice their jumps all year round…including summertime! It is in town and free…plus lots of restaurants and breweries. Just like most small touristy towns, restaurants and breweries all over! Lots of activities…they have outdoor concerts as well! Festivals in the summer and fall! The wine country is in Palisade, Colorado…sweet peaches! Their wine tasting used to be free…it is right off I-70, before Grand Junction, Colorado. Sooo picturesque! Just like the Southwest… Thank you for showcasing Ouray and the million dollar highway! That’s my next road-trip…take care and thank you for sharing your travels! Always enjoyed them…Salud ! ☕️♥️🌺🏞🍻

@JamiePainter

This is an option, but be sure to forget the SSID on your phone / computer afterward. It's a bit of a security risk because when not connected your computer will continuously broadcast the SSID while searching for the hotspot.

Robert that was one great video of the Stomping Grounds of my Childhood camping trips with my parents beginning in 1958. Did my first solo road trip on pretty much the same route at 17 back in 1969. Your right about things to see you could go back a hundred times an still not get your fill of the landscape. Your experience at the KOA seems to show how things have changed over the past 60 years . Thanks for making my self isolation here in Northern Nevada more enjoyable

You finally pass by my house and get hassled by the KOA. So sorry. I will call them and let them know I saw it all. You soon discovered that around here we don't need no stinking campground and we get what we need, not what we want. Silverton and Ouray are true Colorado towns just mining tourists instead of gold. Durango is where you go if you want a paying job. Contact me next time you pass by and I will steer you to the right places at the right times. Spoiler : The train ride is not so great. But how about those breweries heh? And I heard no mention of those green cross stores :)

Dear Robert: Please write or speak to KOA main corporation about the negative experience they gave you, give every detail. I would tell them you are asking for a full refund, and share this video with them. If they don't want to pay for your entire road trip, they could at least refund your complete stay, because you deserved to be treated better, and you deserved a nice road trip. You are worth it!

Robert, it's nice to see you in our back yard. We are a bit north of Ridgway. The interesting wagon you saw on Main St in Ouray is a shepherd's camper. They tend flocks of sheep in the high country above Ouray and Silverton during the summer - lonesome work but in a beautiful place. The shepherds are often Basque, Mexican, or South American folk. One of them is wintering a flock at my in-laws' ranch right now. Also, Cascade Falls has several more falls above the one you visited, but the trail to them is strenuous.

Now that’s a whole lot of familiar sights! Loved watching this after having actually seen about 90% of it in person. Isn’t Colorado amazing? I hope to make it back in the fall someday, as it is supposedly quite a sight to see. Silverton really is a neat place, and we easily found curbside parking with trailer in tow near the end of Greene Street. It is the most intact historic site in America and the whole town is a National Historic Landmark. I do love Ouray too.. it was the quintessential historic mountain town with incredible scenery, hope you get to return there at some point. How fun to see so many of the same things I recorded! I think I enjoy these videos in the mountains and the deserts the most, there is just something extra special about them. Thank you for the tons of work you do to create, grow and share your passion. Keep going… it’s worth it!🤍

Hey Robert, great video ... as always! Can't believe you hauled an RV behind you from Durango to Ouray. Several years I drove the route the other direction in a passenger car and that was challenging enough. Colorado mountain roads tend not to have guardrails so plows can push the snow off the side of road easier. Does nothing to make drivers (and worse, passengers) feel comfortable when driving them. Regarding the comments at the KOA, I am so glad you choose to live in the US!

I've ridden dozens of steam excursions...take it from me, you did not miss anything not riding the Disneyfied Durango & Silverton. 20 minutes of great scenery in Animas Canyon and three hours of boring ride. The next time you are in the area, stay in Chama and ride the Cumbres and Toltec, run by a non-profit as an operating museum. The climb up and over Cumbres Pass is spectacular, and just when you think you've seen it all, you go through the Toltec gorge, almost as dramatic as Animas Canyon. I had an RV friend who spent most of a summer at the campground on the north side of Chama, right next to the tracks. I hope to make it back someday and hope you also get to experience it too.

Too bad about the KOA as it looked very nice and as an RF IT guy, I'm a bit puzzled as to their reasoning...unless the are selling their connection. It towed great. Camper is 3000 dry, so I guess 4000 loaded... never actually weighted it. Truck capable of 7000+. Only time it has struggled was in the Sierra Nevada, climbing to Whitney Portal. It was 100 in the valley and it got a little hot on the way up, but I just turned on the heater and slowed down and temp came right back down. That video coming up in about two weeks.

Traveling Robert thanks! I have a half ton with a 10,000 weight limit and the camper I want weighs just over 6000 pounds. I’ve seen so many conflicting theories on why it’s too heavy... or not. But I guess I will start from where I am.

This was seriously one of my favorite vids of yours. The views. The roads. The infotainment of it all. The everything. My favorite videos of yours so far are this one, Death Valley and one of the 3+ hour To the West videos. The Arizona area as well as Utah seems to really stand out as places i want to get to explore, but you've definitely added Colorado as an absolute must! I have lower back problems where i have to use a walker, so walking is pretty taxing on my body, so (just a thought from someone who wants to travel and go sightseeing eventually) if at all possible, do you think you could squeak in some info in your videos about places that are ADA approved or wheelchair accessible? And i have been wanting to try that Vino Seco (spelling) cooking wine now. Everything you've made in videos always looks so good that a Traveling Robert cooking show isn't a bad idea as a separate video series.

@@TravelingRobert Yes, and it seems to have helped tremendously. Now they have great reviews dating back a little over 1 year. Still some problems with people booking through Air BnB and not getting what they're promised for cabin rentals, but that seems to be the only issue now.

I'm glad I saw this video, I go to Colorado and New Mexico 2 or 3 times a year. I've passed that park before. I'll never stop there. In fact I'm going to pagosa springs and Durango in April if the corona virus doesn't stop me. My vehicle has it's own hot spot. Works great except when you're sandwhiched in a valley between two mountains.

Sir Robert, one of the reasons I do not go much of any place is being handicapped I am very frequently treated very poorly. This makes me most sad. As I have told you I was a broadcast engineer for forty plus years in over 80 countries. I have never been rude or unkind to anyone any where. But now , handicapped I seem to receive it. Oh well I guess I will attempt to always be kind and hope people will treat me like wise. I can not imagine how one could be like that to you, but then!!! Much love you as always.. CLIff

How good well does your mid size truck pull that camper in the Rocky Mountains? I have a Tacoma and I'm looking at a 4K pound camper and didn't know if will need to upgrade to a full size truck,

Enjoyed the video. I stayed at the Durango North a few times with my family. We had taken the train a few times. Wifi wasn't around when we stayed at the Koa. I have also stayed at the former Duragnoa East koa a few times with family.
