The question I had wasn't answered. Do they get a "fail" (strike?) if they don't actually jump (they run up and then abort without attempting to jump, stop, run past bar, go under, etc.).

they have a certain amount of time to attempt a jump (dependant on the number of athletes remaining and if you are attempting consecutive jumps) ... if you run past it is fine but you only have an allotted time - only time it is a fail is if you touch the mat or support without jumping on our run through

If the athlete touches the bar, yet clearing, gets out of the pit and then the bar falls!is that a jump or a miss?

Thats a good question I going to answer it in 2 parts. The rules say If the bar falls of because of the athletes doing then its a failed jump. There is no set time to say if the bar falls after this time period the jump is still successful However I'm guessing you mean 'the athletes jumped and has long left the pit then the bars fall off.' I have never heard or seen this. The closest ive seen is Robbie Grabarz in 2016 where he jumped over the bar and the judge gave him a white flag he started celebrating but seconds later the bar falls. The judge changed and gave him a red flag.

Hi, At international competitions there is 4 officials (5 if a record jump is being attempted). 1 refree to judge whether each jump was successful or not (2 Referees if a possible record is being attempted) 2 Bar attendance to make sure the bar is in placed correctly,1 measurer to measure when the bar is changed or if the refree asks and 1 recorder to record each athletes attempts
