You're SPOT ON about the "cheap" sets helping the film. Personally, I think everything looks lived-in and budget-appropriate for that kind of government project. Like the people funding the project spent the bare minimum when building the convicts' drifting space-trashcan.

Understatement of the year - this is a mind-numbingly boring film ...

I would love to hear you pov on some particular scenes. Particularly the ending

This movie was too boring, and I have a high tolerance for dragging movies, I even like Ad Astra, but this takes the cake for the worst movie I've ever seen.

04:01 soooo trouble every day? i could not dissasociate the train sequence with the start/middle of stalker, its all around a very tarkovski infused film. andre 3000 was pretty fantastic, the economy of dialogue with that character works really well

I actually haven't seen Trouble Every Day, had no idea it was a horror film. I'm very curious now. I agree about Andre 3000, I liked his performance and thought his character worked really well too.

amazing review once again. I hated the movie but you again shed a deserving light on the effort. You should catch Diamantino while you can, I thought it was amazing.

Thanks man ! Very curious about Diamantino, looks absolutely bonkers from what I've seen

2019 has been the year of Sci-fi. Keep in mind there's another movie similar to it - Aniara (2018) from Sweden. Mme. Denis is very provocative, as some of the French directors. Her most challenging, I think, was White Material.

Nice in depth review! As someone who really appreciates symbolism in film, you touched on everything I noticed and more. You are definitely right about the pacing being off, also I felt like sometimes there were not enough scenes setting up the characters and too many events that left me confused and forced to figure out what the film implied that happened. (Such as when Mia goths character murders the test pilot with a shovel offscreen). Instead of thinking about the significance of the scene, I’m thinking, wait, how did we get here? I admit even tho I watched it twice I can’t get on board with it. But I’ll also admit even tho I didn’t like the story, everything else, the sets, acting, music/sound, editing, was all so well done which was the main reason I rewatched it even tho I knew I didn’t enjoy other aspects.

Now, this is how a film should be reviewed. You support your opinions with reasoned arguments about both your likes and dislikes, you locate the film in a broader context and address the film's deeper themes beyond mere plot. I think I liked it more than you as I actually enjoyed the pace and overall languid feel - not necessarily as virtues in themselves but simply because they distinguish the film so strongly from a lot of the rubbish that aims to be meaningful science fiction cinema. I assume you've seem Aniara? Came out around the same time as High Life and is another brilliant entry in the genre.

Finally good review! Too many people asking too many not reasonable questions. No need to overthink, just watch. But RP was great
