This HYS 25 watt high-powered UHF (GMRS / ham) walkie-talkie is the highest power two-way radio I have found yet. This is a UHF "LMR" / commercial hand-held radio that can transmit on UHF, GMRS and (some) ham frequencies - IMHO, the ability to transmit on ham (70cm) and GMRS makes this HT the ultimate high-power survival and SHTF communications radio perfect for preppers or anyone that wants to be ready for an emergency. I show you the issues this radio has, I test the power output, and I test the transmitting range to see how far it can transmit.

I listen/watch your channels with a sense of humour and tongue in cheek because a lot of what you say about hams is true. Now I'm a G7 UK ham licenced now for 50yrs and the old boy network was and is still prevalent in the world of ham radio. You hit the nail on the head and with what you are saying - remember not all hams are like this - there are some of us that just want to explore the hobby and have fun - and having fun is what we're doing watching you on KZbin - keep it up. 73's and farewell

No one told me how addictive this hobby is. I started in radio 6 months ago, licensed for 2 months now, and I started with a lowly UV-5R and Randy informing me about GMRS. Flash forward to today and I have 27 different handhelds, a 25w mobile in my girls car, a 50v2 in my car, a 50v2 as a base station, a spectrum analyzer, swr meter, a ton of antennas I don’t need, and all the accessories. I’ve been ordering a radio every week, Sunday my retevis RB-17P arrives. I’m so bad that I spend my time at night studying RF, Cold War numbers stations, GMRS, and even ham. I joined my local amateur radio club after getting ahold of them on their repeater (wouldn’t recommend just got lucky). I think my girlfriend is right and I may need therapy. Thanks Randy!

Well Randy I solved the problem with the 25 watt hys power pack I don't have a problem getting the battery unit out and putting it back in! The answer is Velcro I'm not going to go into detail too much time and space but you will be able to use your imagination you're making a loop so your left thumb can go through it and you extend your left four finger so you can reach down there and lift up that release button that's at the bottom of your battery pack while your thumb is pushing down inside that Loop and here comes your battery it's working beautifully for me until they can Rectify their big goof with the original battery! You need some John weld glue because you want some strength in there and to give you an idea you're going to be centering a 1 in Strip by 3/4 that's what you'll be working with and you put that at almost the very top just underneath and Center it with that long oval rectangular shape opening there Center it and put it down there give it a couple of hours for that to set and then build it up from there how you want to design your Loop but you will have to start using your John weld glue and make sure it don't run out the sides do a neat job like I did and it looks great I wish I could send you a picture! But it works fantastic when it's all done and very little strength very little a kid could do it! And you going to have to give the glue a good 24 hours to set too long for me to give details about that but you will see as you move along with it but that one inch by 3/4 in self sticking strip you won't need no glue for that but you're going to need to Center that up at the top just under that long oval like slit but get it centered and then take your imagination from there and you will see it coming together the way that I basically made my design to work and it does not I repeat does not get in the way of charging your unit! This will definitely work until they rectify their big goof on the original battery that's all my friend!

Of all the videos I've seen, yours are the most helpful and with the preferred simplicity of clarity. BTW. I looked on the FCC webpage and found nothing with relation to license pertaining to this type of radio. If It is not a major imposition, would you be able to link me to the topic on that website? I don’t understand all the talk of 10, 11 ..etc meters or am/fm. Prefer radio and antenna for $200 under. Is that possible. Don’t want to rule out Ham combo but don’t want the licensing. If they can build such a massive beast at 25 watts in walkie talkie form, although requiring a special FCC business-class license to operate... then why do GMRS handheld radios seem to be stuck around 4-6 watts as a transmit power cap when legally, the government allows up to 50 watts in the specification? I get it... more power means bigger battery, bigger radio, more expensive, less "convenient," blah blah blah. And I honestly probably just answered my own question with that last part or two. But seriously, I don't see why there wouldn't be a market for high-power GMRS handheld transceivers. But instead, what we get is "mobile" or "base station" units to cover high power... and relatively weak five-watt handheld units with equally (relatively) small batteries. Damn it, I think I just answered my question again. But seriously, HYS has shown and proven that it can, in fact, be done--but will it ever be done in GMRS? After all, the spec allows it. It is well within the federal government's regulations. Hell, even a ten or fifteen watt GMRS walkie talkie would be nice to see, if they don't even want to go halfway at 25 watts like HYS has done here.

Technically, the antenna of a 5W radio is supposed to be a minimum of an inch from human tissue when transmitting, to avoid burns. 10W would required doubling that distance, and 20W quadrupling it. So, to be reasonably safe (at least from a manufacturer's liability perspective), you need to hold that radio on a "selfie stick" to get the antenna far enough from your hand. For working radios, Part 90 certification is a good thing. Fewer buttons = fewer things to go wrong in the field. And most of the grunts aren't up to engineering the comms system, so let the coordinators do the programming. With Ham radio, there is much less focus on coordinated systems, and more focus on learning to adapt to whatever comms system you run across.

Most of these guys usually end up not being able to communicate because they never have been in a situation where they really have to use it. When I lived in Cali, there were the ever present earthquakes , Fires, floods, and being stranded on a freeway with no cell coverage! Glad I left! The only problem I see is that if you have only one of these, how would you hear the other guys out there with "The Whip" if they only have a puny 5 watt radio? Maybe you could talk to Base stations/Repeaters all the time? I'm ust saying! Keep up the great dialogs!

The first time or two I watched his videos I found him annoying, especially the "affiliate link below" thing. I missed out on the humor because I let it bother me so. However, could tell he knew his stuff so I kept on watching him. It was the 3rd video exactly that I became a fan. He really is f-ing hilarious and definitely an original.

The self destruct, when I was in the Army their was a feature like that on our handhelds, in case a genius lost it or forgot to turn it in. Extra layer of security. 12 hour security shift, that radio was only good for 12.5 or 13 hours.

I would also add for rental purposes. Some companies rent their radios out, and to prevent theft, and use beyond the rental period......you can lock them out.

These radios are beasts. I programmed the first 9 channels for gmrs 15-22 and one repeater channel. Mine transmits full 25 watts at the pre programmed channels 10-12 on high and approximately 23 watts on the remaining 4 channels on high. On gmrs channels mine transmit at approximately 20 watts on high, 10 watts on medium and 5 watts on low. Very heavy duty, and work well with a cheap baofeng external mics.

What are the channels 10-12 frequencies? And what are the frequencies for the 4 remaining channels? I'm interested in purchasing these radios but I haven't found a list of the pre-programmed channels so that is why I'm asking. Thx

@@csailor7632 channels 10-12 were preset to 401.995, 402.995, and 403.995 all with 88.5 tone. Channels 13-16 are preset to Random frequencies from 421-425 mhz. The original first 9 channels were from 428-435 mhz with 100 or 88.5 tones which I didn’t test wattage on.

I am new to this vast landscape of radios for SHTF commo, does the radio put out 25 watts out of box based on the channels you change it to, or is it something you need to program after the fact? I was planning on talking to my friend 20 miles away but didn't pick up a programming cable for it yet and I'm wondering if I should get one first. Sorry if I sound slow lol

PLEASE don't allow this to distract you from the fact that "In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them... maybe you can hire The A-Team."
