Not advisable, but we used to fire a .45 straight down the well to 'shock' the pores open. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. This was of course a hazard to the well casing, and possible source of lead contamination. So... just don't do it! 😉

Just a tidbit. I’m a 25 yr mechanic and I couldn’t help but notice the fan shroud is of ill design. On the frack motor. You want the shroud to stop where the fan blade is half in half out. Makes it much much much much more efficient and will help it run a thermostat temps.

I was a driller/plumber for over 3 decades, before politics and regulations crushed the industry in 2008. The biggest problem with todays well drilling is they stick to 4 to 6" casings and do not consider every cubic inch of bore wall matters. A 10" bore/casing is the difference of over 230% in actual lateral flow ratios in water wells. Be that guy who can brag you have a 10" Incher and be able to prove it!

Very cool channel, Philip. I really enjoy all the content and experience that you have shared on wells. I have learned a lot. I do have a question regarding pressure tanks on a well system. Friend bought older home on 10 acres with 12gal/minute well. He wants to add water to a workshop building that is 30 feet from well. The Main house is 500 ft away , which is supplied by well. Could a tee be added at well and plumbed to workshop? Does a pressure tank and check valve need to be installed? He wants to add a shower and sink to it in the future. Is this something doable?

Your engine he needs a tune up. The burble at idle indicates incorrect mixture, choke settings or plugs. I have a home well and have learned a lot from your informative videos, Thanks.
@ReadTheShrill2 ай бұрын
I wonder if you could run the incoming frack water over the engine's radiator? Then your engine would never overheat. You could mount the radiator in a tub, then just run the water through the tub on its way out to the well, so your water isn't mixing with the coolant. The only danger would be if your radiator developed a leak while running - but you could mitigate that by running bright fluorescent dye in the coolant so you'd notice it right away.

Always enjoy your videos mate; as someone on the other side of the drilling industry (O&G), it's interesting to see how similar applications are applied, even if they're on a smaller scale. I guess one question I have, is what is the well casing made of (upvc/pvc-u?), and what's the pressure rating typically of the pipes you're typically pressuring up against? I'm assuming there's some sort fill on the backside (annulus) like gravel and/or bentonite? It may be beneficial to run your packer to immediately above your perforated/production interval (ie. slotted liner or screen sections), to avoid pressuring up the casing above the target zone/s un-necessarily - which could lead to burst casing sections or parted connections - through either purely applying too much pressure (ie. exceed the burst rating of the casing or connections); ballooning of the casing in unsupported areas (which can part casing joints due to high tensile forces) etc. Keep up the good work, interested to see what rate this well produces at! PS. deepest ESP install I've been involved with was at 21,000ft (6.4km, deviated well); pump was over 500hp! Edit: The flowback you're seeing is typically a result of what we call "supercharging" in the O&G industry. Basically, because of all the fluid leak-off (ie. water being injected, along with other silt and the like being forced into the fractures/pores) into the formation/s , the near-wellbore pressure increases temporarily. If you were to leave the well shut-in, it would naturally bleed-off back into the formation/s over time, but as you're deflating the packer immediately it's flowing back up-hole preferentially.

@h2omechanic3 ай бұрын
@CraftedChannel our casing stops in bed rock. Roughly 60ft deep We inflate the packer at 80ft-130ft & it swells up into the rock wall of the well. Not in the casing. Wells that are Screened do have casing the full length of a well & cannot be fracked.

@kat26413 ай бұрын
lol I was thinking the same thing at least I know it’s law in Michigan 🤷🏻♂️
@kevinblevins26123 ай бұрын
Why
@Wheel_Horse3 ай бұрын
@@kevinblevins2612 So that surface water, which could contain contaminants, can not flow down the well into the aquifers below. In this case, although unlikely because the well isn't producing anything, it's possible for "cross contamination" to occur between different underground aquifers. One last thing, if an animal falls into the well and decays, all that nasty stuff can leech into the aquifers. Lots of reasons!
@kat26413 ай бұрын
@@kevinblevins2612 Because an open well or dry hole is a direct path for contamination to get into the underground water aquifer and water veins. Example: rat falls down dies an bacteria can contaminate the entire watervein. Like wise Chemical could be spilled slowly, saturate through the ground leach leach into the open hole. If ?? Is a 30~ 60 foot of casing you’re supposed to pump grout or concrete and fill the entire unused well casing.. ( Wheel Horse)😂 I started my reply stopped for supper came back an posted before I realized you answered while I was eating 🤷🏻♂️

Yes, you can. Depending on the UCS (uniaxial compressive strength) of the rock and exposed formations; the pressure applied etc., one or or more zones could start to break down and be injected into...

Question I have a well at 75 feet it was put in 27 years ago. Still has the original pump. I know I need a new pump due to water pressure getting low new pressure tank and switch. But the 6 inch galvanized pipe is questionable. When I have the pump put in should I have it lined and flushed due to all of the pipe flaking off inside pipe. It is full of the stuff.
