The Eastern skyline needs to start changing....govt across the East should map out layouts provided with modern facilities specifically for high rise buildings... Igbos can do it, just play to their competitive spirit and it's done

I love your high quality video production. The drone shots also helped a great deal to tell your videographic documentary story about Awka, the capital city of Anambra State. I viewed clusters of modern houses and architectural masterpieces. Anambrarians are a wealthy people who have been developing other parts of Nigeria and reaping insults in return. It is high time they had a rethink and bring their investments home in the spirit of Aku rue ụlọ. I hope to start seeing a city layout for skyscrapers and highrise buildings across Igboland, befitting of modern city skylines and the construction of ring roads, flyovers and interchanges within the hearts of these cities. For Anambra, if land is not available in Awka, space should be mapped out elsewhere for this project. It could be done somewhere between Awka and Onitsha to bridge the two cities and bring out the beauty of Anambra State.

Any building above two-story must have lift (elevator), we should not tolerate what is happening in Onitsha. An area should be mapped out for tall buildings just like we have in Abuja here. Central Area in Abuja is where the tall buildings are.

My brother, thank you for this question. Electricity is a major problem in this part of the world. You know electricity used to be under the exclusive lists, meaning that it was under the Federal Government, but the recent change of the law allows state to generate, transmit and distribute. Any serious state can now look for investors because it is capital intensive business.

When you talk of high rise buildings apart from considering access to the upper levels, electricity, water supply, drainage, you must also consider fire control and escape points in case of a fire. I hope the engineers in the state considered all these before granting building permits.

@Anambra1st son. This is impressive and many more high rise buildings will be built given the fact that there is no embargo on the number of floors permitted. Bushman, apart from Lagos that Igbos developed in the South West, what else do you have as cities. I have visited Abeokuta, Akure, Ibadan, Ile-Ife, and Ado-Ekiti with their ancient landscapes and rusty houses. Just shut up your mouth and hide your face in shame. Every time, everything is about Lagos. Why are your other states not like Lagos if it weren't the federal government, foreigners and investors from other tribes in Nigeria who made Lagos what it is originally?

There are hardly any access roads. There is no planning. The neighborhoods will get traffic congestion because of narrow streets. The government should earmark areas for major roads - 4 to 6 lane boulevards that will interconnect blocks of housing. They are having estates next to each other with no major roads separating as well as interlinking them. They should study the way it is done using Enugu as a model. Awka should have intersections running accross the Enugu - Onitsha expressway every mile at the very least. The ideal would be every half mile. This is what is referred to as a block in the United States of America. Such roads are usually dual carriage but with service lanes. In effect they are 6 lanes in width. Awka is growing so fast that without better town planning and management, it will become like Onitsha. The governor needs to appoint 2 or 3 mayors over the city.

Houses are better than flats. People that live in high-rise buildings all over in the West would sacrifice much to live in Nigerian type houses. Except for businesses, including for tourism business ecosystem, high rise buildings are terrible. The lusting for tall buildings by Africans is evidence of primitivity and lack of sophistication, smacking of wanna-be-like-abroad-ism. If you're presented with the choice of flats or houses in the walk of your life, and you're able to afford any, all things reasonable, always choose houses. Even the argument that blocks of flats provide cheap and economical mass housing and solves constraints of the high population limited space paradigms, only makes the Solution case not the Preference one.

@Anambra1st son. Thanks @osagieosarefe for your thought provoking submission. Well the igbos had hoped that Nigeria could be salvaged and made great as a real giant of the black race where there is absolute freedom of expression, association and right of resident anywhere in the country and own businesses and properties without hindrance or harassment and much more privileges. Whatever hope and aspirations for Nigeria's greatest and survival is fast fading out, thus the urgency of now to invest all hopes, aspirations, resources and energies to making henceforth igboland that great dream beloved homeland to be very proud of. All indices point towards that direction and has since taken off. By God's special Grace and blessings we shall accomplish this task.
