The slums had to go no doubt about it , the tower blocks were a great idea , new and modern , but poorly built and not allocated correctly , people with family’s should have been sent to the garden estates

often the building was rushed with bolts and braces never installed, and after a few years would corrode and deteriorate. many of these concrete buildings were ready for demolition within a decade. They should have focused on somehow building new towns even if they needed to send people into the countryside. would have been easier and cheaper in the long term

They should have at least had community used areas on one level in the building. something like a café or a meeting place would have done much to allow community spirit instead of locking people away and rarely seeing any of their own neighbours.

We should do it all over again. We know the negative points of the flats because we had a lifetime to find out. Next time we can fix what was wrong with the old flats and make them better than ever.
