Love it. This is the proper way to use a straight key. Great example for those of us that still love to use cw.

no absolutely . this is the WRONG way to use a straight key . And he won't last for a long time because that way the hand sinews start hurting. Also the key doesn't have a "plate" under the know so both thumb and the four finger won't be relaxed . the right way is to use the wrist only and have the entire arm , from wrist to elbow sit on the table, totally relaxed . I'm talking from a professional point of view .

Professionals discuss in the comments how they sit, how the transmitting hand is located, but no one pays attention to the quality of work, i.e. result. And the transmission speed is increased when editing a video. In addition, there are many styles of working on a direct key, so it is silly to argue what is right and what is wrong. Everyone is sure that his style of work is correct. Everyone considers himself a professional, forgetting that he is not the only professional who will watch this video.

Your arm will hurt after few minutes if you use the key that way . You have to swing the wrist, not the entire arm and to do so you've to "sit" your entire arm on the table from wrist to the elbow . Also that key need a "plate" under the knob...so your thumb and the 4th finger can sit . Your way is ok to have the glass arm in no time . Sorry.

You can't use a straight key of this design with your arm on the desk. Yes, the wrist must be flexible, but so must the arm be. And I agree, you need the disc under the knob for the thumb and and second finger.

@@triradio I've seen a few ops use the MJF keyboard we had at our highspeed code position. During our OBS/AMVER sked, I've seen them get smoked when they try to crank up the speed faster than they could copy. One thing I learned to never do, is tell any vsl who's call sign began with a U or X to "QRQ GA".. That few seconds of silence, that was the sound of "you are about to get more then you bargained for". To graduate from "A" school, the Coast Guard RM had to send 16wpm @ 96% accuracy and receive 18 at 98%. Higher rank required faster speeds. By the time you make E6, you had to all but have your speed key cert and send/receive 30wpm and use a speedkey. Most ops after a year or two at a Radsta or Commsta could use a strait key and hit mid 20's sending. Fun times back in those days. Still copy CW today just for fun. 73's

He's sending CQ CQ CQ DE HL1EJT HL1EJT PSE K = General call to all radio amateurs From HL1EJT [His callsign, which is from S.Korea. HL1 is the prefix that tells you what country he is from - the number often designates which region of the country - and EJT is the suffix, which is his own personal signifier], PSE means Please, and here K means go ahead any station. It is quite fast, especially as he is sending the Morse manually without the aid of springs, or electronic help at all. He has what we call a 'good fist'; in other words he sends clear, well-spaced Morse Code. He is transmitting on 14.016 MHz, at the lower end of what we call the 20 metre band, probably the most popular of all of our frequency bands on Short Wave.
