It is and the toleracne is crazy... some high-end wire EDMs can achieve tolerances as tight as +/- 0.0001 inches (0.00254 mm) or even +/- 0.00004 inches (0.001016 mm)

Yep, all good untill a 2 inch carbon steel 30 tooth straight cut gear is 600USD.

Wire EDM excels at creating complex gear geometries, including internal gears, helical gears, and gears with very small teeth, but it does cost more than machining... depends what you need.
