Used to live in London so did these flights in economy a lot (parents paid because this was college lol). Long story short: close your eyes. Turn off the IFE, turn off your headphones, close your book, you name it. The key is not to “sleep” (if you can that’s dope I never could) but give your brain the cognitive break it needs to make it to your hotel. What makes these euro flights brutal is the night time aspect. Morning London flights out of JFK and Boston were real jet lag beaters.

Awesome! Getting the whole family together can be hard as we get older. This will hopefully be an incredible and memorable trip. I agree that the redemption part of the points and miles game is where people don't put in enough effort. Earning points is like the first semester of a 4 year education, the redeeming part is the other 7 semesters. Redemptions don't always have to be first or business class flights, but I would just go back to being a cash back earner if I wasn't using transfer partners.

Luke, if you would’ve book cash you would’ve get a round trip . So the actual cash price would’ve been different than 2 one way . Most likely you could book the round trip for 5k instead of 8. I always get the cpp based on a round trip price and not two one way way .

I booked a trip for my family of four from Atlanta to Paris on Air France last September and got over 6 cents per point after double dipping on transfer bonuses and an Air France promo. All in economy! The only problem, I keep thinking I can pull that off every time. 😂

That will be a great trip with your family! You know it's going to be rough in economy but at least it's not 9 hours. I'll be flying economy to Europe in Aug. I cancelled my Oregon Aug roadtrip b/c I saw a good deal to Iceland from New Orleans on Delta thru JFK. Used my 35% back benefit on the Biz Plat so it will end up being about 65k Amex points roundtrip so a decent deal from one of my home airports. I could have saved about 10k points if I had flown through ATL and DTW but the flight is only 5 1/2 hours from JFK so hopefully it won't be too bad. I assigned my seat in the way back hoping I'll get poor man's business class. 🤞🤞🤞

Great video, my specific pain point is trying to find value within the US domestically above 1.5. Most of the time the award availability isn’t there or only offered one way but the time sucks. Internationally I don’t mind putting in the work for outsized value (it comes with the territory), but domestically I’m comfortable with the 1.5x floor. Especially with airlines like Turkish etc… devaluing their points

Domestic is sometimes tougher but not impossible. 1.5 cpp is not bad but you can almost always do better with a little research.

@@LukesPointsandMiles correct indeed, but with my VX I feel a better use case with my miles is for business international flights rather than domestic economy even if I can score higher than 1.5. I’m sure you will agree on that as well 😉. For domestic economy, I value simplicity not only from an earnings standpoint, but redemptions most importantly as well.. that’s why I defer to my USBAR for that only with RTR…. OR in your case 5% cash back setup are two routes that’s less stressful than indirect bookings through a travel partner (speaking from a domestic only standpoint)

Great redemption Uncle Luke! I have no problem redeeming points and miles for economy, but then again, I'm a little scrawnier so I fit in those seats, and I'm not 6'7" like someone that we know. I don't think I've ever seen a redemption that high for Economy seats! The transfer bonus certainly helped .. and some luck, but mostly skill. Nice!
