It is very nice to see you back. I have an idea for a video. You can demonstrate the difference between a genuine mobile charger which has optocoupler and insulated transformer versus one of those cheap crap counterfeits without proper insulation between live voltage and output. People die or are badly injured because of those crap counterfeit chargers. Most of the videos on KZbin in this regards are technical and consumers do not understand them. You are the man to educate ordinary people about the dangers of counterfeit chargers.

@Coolkeys2009
@Coolkeys2009 9 жыл бұрын
Michael Harvey When you walk across a carpet a touch a door knob and feel a shock that shock can be more than 8000v but that doesn't kill you. If you grabbed hold of a power line running your entire neighbourhood that was 8000v as well as stopping your heart and breathing it would also cook you. Why?
@SongwriterTaco
@SongwriterTaco 9 жыл бұрын
Coolkeys2009 Ok. however, it would still be more dangerous to get shocked by 120V AC than 7000V taser if the amount of time the current was passing through you was the same? right? because he only touched the taser for a brief moment, and that was still less dangerous than touching 120V AC for a brief moment.
@Coolkeys2009
@Coolkeys2009 9 жыл бұрын
Michael Harvey I'm not so sure, tasers are designed to be disruptive to the nervous system and can be lethal. There are higher power taser's available used by dubious governments for torture that run off batteries and that can easily kill.

I used to save up all sorts of resistors and capacitors as a child, because my dad said that they would blow up 'like a bomb' if you put them in a light socket, which of course sounded awesome. When I told him, he said it was very dangerous and I should hand them over to him. Instead I plugged in a coat hanger and learned a valuable lesson in how a circuit breaker works!

Circuit breakers... Our soviet fathers just used breakers based on 5 amp fuses. So, everything was hard to find including fuses and every second guy was using piece of wire instead of fuse. And there was looooot of fire caused by heated line wires inside a walls.

I don't know if you've covered this in your videos although I'm sure you know about it. It would be a good reminder to let everyone know that if you aren't killed immediately by touching 120VAC (or voltages around that range or higher), you can die afterwards (a few hours) due to heart problems. Always, after being shocked by a voltage like that, HEAD TO THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY to get yourself checked out for any issues with your heart. Just thought this would be important for people to see who watch your stuff. Love your vids Mehdi! - Konner

This might already be answered in the comments. But I'd like to know why all of our home appliances are not DC powered if DC power is so much safer?
@maxicx75v
@maxicx75v 9 жыл бұрын
+Saeid Momtahan 1. Because it's hard to make AC from DC if you need it, but it's easy to make DC from AC. 2. Because AC voltage can be easily adjusted with a transformer. Lowering DC voltage requires more complicated circuit, raising it is even harder. 3. Electricity is transferred over long distances and transferring it in very high voltage greatly reduces losses. Combine that with previous point and you have one more reason.

@MrOmnos
@MrOmnos 8 жыл бұрын
+Saeid Momtahan Different appliances require different dc voltages. When you convert dc to dc power loss is higher. If you were to supply your house with 170 volts dc and you need 5 volts for your phone charger, that remaining 165 volts is wasted and is dissipated as heat. This is just too costly and energy hogging. It is far more easier to convert an Ac voltage to lower or higher AC voltages using transformers. The only losses in a transformer is a Iron loss (which is because of the iron core of the transformer and is always constant for a given transformer) and the copper loss (which is because of the copper winding, this depends on the amount of current being drawn). These loses are fairly small and can even be reduced by using better core and winding materials. So, now if you need 5v for your charger you can use a 120-9v transformer and than use a regulator to get 5v output.

I'm surprised he can touch DC like this. I heard a story of the past in a french manufactury when everything was running on 110V. The worker got electrocuted. He was stuck by the current. He could not remove his hand. Eventually he managed to remove his hand from the electrocution and survived. And that's how we got his testimony. It is because of this problem that we moved to 220 AC because electrocution repells instead of catching.

This is exactly what I was looking for many days. I am an amateur photographer and I wanted to run a normal Tungsten bulb on DC as they have possibly HIGHEST CRI Value but the problem with that is they flicker. SO I was wondering if I can run on DC. I hope they work. I am this to my DIY projects. Thank You Mehdi.

been shocked by 120v and 277v. neither occasion was I holding a wire in each hand. once I was even slightly shocked by holding a non contact tester to a hot wire standing on a ladder up against a light pole. the wire was wet because it had just finished raining, and the insulation had old cracks. the 120v trying to get to the ground through my metal ladder was enough to make me feel the 'buzz' and it wasn't a good feeling. most people only feel the shock of having a live wire try to use them to get to true earth ground (and get off lucky), rarely do they actually become a human resistor between a live and neutral/ground wire. in those situations it most certainly can be lethal.

OK, so I was shocked back in 08 and I'm pretty sure I have nerve damage from it. I completed a circuit on a power strip while trying to unplug a stuck AC adapter for a laptop. It felt like liquid fire hit my veins and I was being stabbed by tons of knives. I could not move or feel my arm for over 10 minutes. My question is, What type was I hit with, AC or DC?

Well then, this one of those moments were you look back and realize YOU ALMOST DIED. The plug got stuck in the strip, so I one hand on the strip, and used the other to pull the plug. It ended up not working and was still stuck. Like an idiot, I wrapped my ENTIRE hand around the plug at the base and pulled, I ended up touching both prongs at once, which completed the circuit and ZING I was shocked. Immediately could not feel my arm and it felt like liquid fire was running through my veins and it was very tingly. It was so tingly I felt like a bunch of tiny knives were stabbing my arm. It actually didn't even make me cry, I was just a bit concerned. I could not move my arm on my own, I had to manually move it for 10 minutes and it felt dead and limp. Reading what you guys are telling me, is there anyway to find out EXACTLY how much AC went through my body?
@BradyMcwilliam
@BradyMcwilliam 10 жыл бұрын
Scheefinator Well US standard is 110 volts luckily you only had one hand on the prongs so the current just went through your hand.If you still have your laptop you can look on the AC adapter and it should tell you how many amps. But they are usually 2-4 amps.
