When the strength of cotton fiber is measured, why is the strength of a bundle fiber divided with the tex count of that fiber? I should explain my question elaborately. For example, the mass (weight) of a fiber of 1000 m is 25 grams. So, the Tex count of that fiber will be 25. Suppose, to break a bundle of that fiber, HVI needs 875 cN force. Now this 875 will be divided by 25 (875 divided by 25 gives us 35). Does it mean that to break each tex (or each gram) of that fiber, the required force is 35 cN? We didn’t get 875 cN to break the 25 grams of that fiber. So, why will we divide 875 by 25? It seems to me that if we want to divide the force by the count of that fiber, we should take a bundle of that fiber which mass is 25 grams. Later, that bundle will be elongated by a pair of jaws until it breaks. Then the force required to break the bundle will be divided by 25. Please tell me the exact thing.
